What is the punishment to a team that is not salary cap compliant?

There are a couple of teams that, at the moment, aren't fully salary cap compliant, according to NHLnumbers.com. What is supposed to happen to them if they are over the salary cap?

Between a 1M$ and 5M$ fine for the team, possible loss of draft picks and can also include forfeiture of games and possible employee suspension.

For the player....25% of his salary or 1M and possible suspension.

I am not going to be REDUNDANT (Mike T..LOL) and point out that there are instances where you can exceed the cap.....bonuses (which would apply to the follwing year's hit) and LTIR...oh, I guess I will since I explained it.

The cap is calculated on a daily basis....so to exceed the cap would be a problem that would occur later in the season when a team had games left and not enough cap space to pay everyone, we saw this in Philly and in Calgary a couple of years ago where they had to sit out some big money players to avoid exceeding the cap. However, yes I do know that the initial roster calculation must be under. There are X amount of days in the season (190 neighbourhood this year) and each players salary for each day is added up.

It's a good question. I do know that teams are allowed to exceed the by a small amount, I think around 7% or so, but I've looked and I don't see any penalties. I'm wondering if there aren't any. Perhaps, the NHL doesn't ratify the contract if it would cause the team to exceed the cap. I know that there are SIGNIFICANT penalites for trying to be creative with salaries (i.e the Kovalchuk situation).

I'd be interested to hear if there is a penalty for simply exceeding.

There are no teams currently in the NHL that aren't salary cap compliant. Remember that there is a bonus cushion in the CBA.

I think that they could only dress as many players that keep them in the salary cap.
