I want to make a homemade horror movie...help please?

Okay so me and a few of my friends wanted to make our own homemade horror movie to put on YouTube, We've always been a fan of horror movies and love watching bloody and gory things. So since we we're such a fan of them, we decided to make our own.

Plot:

It's going to be about a girl and a few of her friends who are left at home late at night, while her parents are somewhere else. They hear strange noises outside so they decide to go investigate. They find a dead body outside and start panicking, so they run back inside lock all the doors and try to call the police- but the power had been turned off from the outside. They immediately start to become even more scared and start to search for their mobiles, a few minutes pass and they can't seem to find them. One of the friends looks outside the window and finds their mobiles in a pile amongst other important things that could be used to contact people. Each friend is to scared to go outside, so they decide to hide until the parents get back home (about in 2 more hours). They hide in a wardrobe, and start hearing thumping coming from downstairs, they hold their mouths trying not to scream.

So each of the friends has to try survive in the house before the killer get's them...

Other stuff:

That's just some of the main details, of course there'll be a lot more when we actually direct the movie.

We originally thought of using a classic serial killer such as Jason or Leatherface because they we're scary. We then decided not to use Leatherface because we didn't want to accidently break anything using a chainsaw, and we didn't want to use Jason because after then we had decided to make up an original killer of our own.

So, just a few questions:

1) Blood- does it look more real to use fake blood, or is there a recipe that i could make that looks like real blood. AND DEFINITELY NOT USING TOMATO SAUCE!! ...so for blood what do you think we should use?

2) Serial Killer: What would be a good look for the serial killer (example: costume, face) and what could be the name of the serial killer (something scary that sounds good)

3) Weapons: What weapons would be good and scary for a serial killer to use (example: maybe something that might not have been used a real lot before- but not something stupid- things like knives and tools are also good)

4) Kills: What do you think in some scenes would be a good way for people to die (example: stabbed to death, chocked, drowned, hung, butchered)

5) Butchering People: How can we make this look real and not fake? HELP WITH THIS QUESTION!!??

6) What's a good editing program I could use to make the kills and blood and gore look effective?

and 7) WHAT WOULD BE A GOOD TITLE FOR THE MOVIE (mainly ones that have never been used before or a lot!)

THANKYOU EVERYONE WHO COMMENTS!!! :):)

Update:

AND I REALLY NEED HELP WITH THE TITLE,

THANKS :):)

Update 2:

:O and Snaps187mean, unless your definition of scary is a total hawwt sexy babe- then i totally agree with you :)

If posting on Youtube - Don't make it too real or include an out-take reel

Or it could be taken down before anyone can see it - The Out-take reel, would show everyone is still okay

Some of the best Horror films leave a lot to the viewers own imagination and are scarier for doing it

In the film Alien, you hardily saw anything of the monster but the tension was built up.

Same in the first Jaws, ( but that was mostly because the model shark was rubbish so they used it as little as possible) Without show much shark biting early in the movie, with a good musical score to scrape the finger nails down the blackboard of the mind.

Simple effects of blood spurting could be done with some thin rubber tubing and a squeeze pump

Remember smoke machines can be bought on the high street these days - I saw one In Agros I am sure - Atmospheric effects can be done on the cheap

    1) Fake blood looks fine if applied well.

    2) Some kind of mask or distinguishing feature is common. Try something new (that means no hockey masks!)

    3) I believe the coolest 'weapon' ever in a slasher movie was an entire toolbox in 'Toolbox Murders', but I have yet to see an ice pick used...

    4) These are easy to think of if you're in the right mood; you won't need my help.

    5) No idea.

    6) Monkey Jam, Gimp, and Movie Maker are the free ones. the best (it's expensive, though) is Final Cut for the Mac.

    7) Don't name the title after the killer; that makes it less scary. Leprechaun? Candyman? Do those sound as scary as Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th?

1.) Hot Topic sells fake blood. Something I've thought of you could use to give an illusion of a deep wound is cherry koolaid just dampen it and the powder will turn very dark red and the watery part kind of looks like blood.

2.) Someone that looks totally ordinary (the more realistic it is the scarier it is) but with the mental physco serial killer look.. like messy looking.

    3.) A Hammer :T or a pick axe..

4.) Drowning might be the easiest to pull off.. Again with the koolaid just pour a bit of powder in the tub or something (not too much because you'd want a blood cloud effect) an just stick someone face down in it. Foggy mirrors are real spooky too so maybe the scene could be like one of you guys had to use the bathroom and since it was dark anyway she couldnt really see the mirrors reflection so she didnt see the killer and he sneaks up on her :D

5.) Make up, Kool aid, mirrors (illusions.. like how magicians do it, do some research on how), Dark lighting is a must.. If you absolutely need some light then do a night vision or dim because if it gets too bright viewers can tell its not real wounds

I think that Micheal myers is pretty scary, and a blank expressionless mask like his would be good to use.

I think one cool way to kill one of your characters would be to have the killer slowly tear out her jugular vein with his bare hands(jugular is in the neck if you didnt know)

Also if you have seen the strangers, a suit wearing character with an old potatoe type sack on his head makes a good killer, but then you would need to arm the killer with a gun

Bound to a chair and getting stabbed seems like a cool idea.

One Girl escapes maybe but dies later on due to several small wounds or maybe to a large wound that she didnt know was even that bad of a wound
