What shoulds I do about swimming?
So I have been swimming competitively for many years now. I have had periods of both enjoying it and not caring the least. Recently my coach left, so I moved up to the higher group in my club. I'm no longer motivated to swim hard, and the practices are harder, so I'm getting left behind big time. I'm a sophomore in high school, and I swim towards the top of state level. I'm no Michael Phelps, but could definitely swim Division 3 college. I don't want to through away all my training, but I hate going to practice day in, day out. Should I move back to the easier group and stay at this speed, or suck it up and try and get faster in my new group?

try to find the motivation. i was in a similar position as you and went the easy route. i regret it everyday. i wish i had pushed myself harder to see what i could do. don't give up. find something to make it fun.

i know EXACTLY how you feel. i also swim for a club and i've recently been mosed up too and everybody else is just so much faster which just really makes me feel like "why even bother? they're so much better" ya know? but honestly if i were division 3 college swim, i wouldnt wanna waste all the time and effort and money i spent to get there... if it helps, try keeping a goal in ur mind that makes practices easier. because afterall, swimming is also a mental sport :) goals could be like dropping 2 seconds on ur 50 free or perfecting ur turns.... good luck :D

It really depends on what you want to do when you get older. If you want to go to college a scholarship for swimming would really help with the cost, but if your really unhappy with the new group your in then maybe you should move back down. Honestly if I were in your position, I would work through the more difficult practices, that's what I'm going to have to do next year as well.

It depends. A lot of time practice sucks for me, but I never give up. I just think about all the funner things. (Team activities, swim meets, etc..) Plus, I love the feeling you get after you complete a test set. You feel invincible! Do you really want to through it all away?
