When saying the union forced a company overseas?

Many have the picture of high paid autoworkers demanding a wage most people would find fantastic. However how would you account for workers making t-shirts at minimum wage having their jobs shipped to mexico. Then to China when the companies found production costs to be even less.

Companies outsource for cheap labor and no safety regulations... period.

If we imposed tariffs... American companies would compete with another American companies for the American market.

Foreign competition (and outsourced & imported products) would pay taxes making them no cheaper than American produced products.

Our national market is what everyone is after anyway.

We would all have good paying jobs to buy more stuff, and importers would be a new tax base.

It ain't rocket science... it just pisses off the globalist neocons that run the GOP.

...you know the economy is in real trouble when your 8 dollar per hour job was shipped overseas....for sure.

After all the talk on the economy... it always comes down to energy.

We need a lot of it, and we need it cheaply....or our economy will never efficiently compete with other emerging economies.

Our cost of living surpassed our average wages long ago, and the affects of this fact are coming full circle now.

Some people here aren't old enough to remember an economy where an average family only needed ONE breadwinner in the household.... now both parents work, kids are babysat by xbox360, and the socionomic standards are breaking down.

We're slowly being conditioned to accept that our standard of living is going to go down.... even more.

A Chinese factory worker makes about $1,800 per year (and that's at a decent company). A minimum wage American factory worker is going to make at least $14,000 a year. It's not personal, it's all in the numbers.

It's just polemics. The auto industry is only one of many that have offshored their businesses. We used to be a manufacturing and exporting nation, now we're an importing nation that manufactures almost nothing.

Fun fact: The costs of US labor are about 7% of the cost of an automobile.
