Has anybody paid for a restaurant meal with a check?

Like, for example, you go to like a restaurant (probably fancy one), and the waiter gives you the bill, and you pay for the meal (or for the whole group) by writing a check. Has anyone ever done that? Is there like an etiquette as to how to do it or whether to do it?

Most restaurants do not accept checks. I go out a lot and I used to be a waitress. i have ever only seen ONE restaurant that allowed checks, and that was actually a Pizza Hut. The sign said something like, "We will accept your check w/ the proper ID"

But just ask beforehand and if for some reason they DO accept checks... I'm sure you can add the tip right onto the check.

No not in the last 20 years, since credit cards came out. Not many restaurants take checks because checks bounce very easily.
