Are there any Christians here who can show they understand..?

... an atheist's mindset (there are several), *from the perspective of the atheist*?

Describing such from the viewpoint of Christianity is easy. (Romans 1:18-32 will do.)

But having a sufficiently well-developed theory of mind to see the world as someone else sees it, putting your own viewpoint aside for one moment, that's something else.

Anyone care to?

Update:

For <✞ hunter & ..... t-bone>, and perhaps others... on "mindset" I meant nothing more than "can you step for a moment into an atheist's shoes?" Perhaps that would have been a better phrasing.

From the replies so far, it seems not everyone can.

Update 2:

º§€V€Nº :

" I think that atheism does not exist; God explains it so well like this:"

I suggest you've not managed to step into an atheist's shoes and that you are still thinking from your own perspective.

I'm well aware of Romans 1, but I have sufficient grounds (as I weigh it) to think Paul is simply wrong.

If you and he are right I must be a moral monster.

Update 3:

It's clearly a struggle to "step outside" for many who made the attempt. Thank you anyway: it's been revealing.

And thank you Kar for your sweetness, as ever, though we are so far away.

I understand atheists for the most part. Or I try to. Why believe in something that you can't see, hear, or feel? All logic points to the contrary. That God doesn't exist. I understand that. And there is even evidence to disprove the Bible if you care to think of it in that way. I understand that too. In fact, all those things constantly go through my mind but I cannot accept that there is nothing more than this. I can't accept that we are just an elaborate accident. Some might call that stupid and that I'm living in denial. So be it. That's my fate. I just know that God exists. Way down deep and I can't explain that in a way that will convince anyone.

    Hello,

I think I can do so:

    1) Just as we Christians like to work to spread the Good News about God, Jesus and Salvation, Atheists feel compelled to spread the bad news that there is no God, salvation or after life and we are here but for a fleeting moment of existence in time and should make the most of it on this material plain.

    2) There is no empirical evidence for God and nobody has returned from the dead nor have leaders from Moses to Mohamed appeared to tell us what's up on the other side.

    3) The problem of good and evil is a hell of a topic of contention between us as well.

    Cheers,

    Michael Kelly

Atheism is simply a lack of believing in God. There is no implied mindset.

As for the anti-religious mindset common to R&S, reductionism is common. For instance, I can look at a situation and see a miracle, while an atheist will see a coincidence.

I most likely can understand many mindsets, although I may not agree with them.

I can definitely show compassion, when these are sincere. It is much harder when these said "mindsets" are spoken with hostility, rudeness, etc.

Pedestal, you know, I have never seen you behave in any way but polite on yahoo... and if I did have all of the answers to all of your questions, I would answer as many as I could.

There comes a time when we, just listen, but also, when we need to create some distance. And all of the above, gates swing both ways.

I realize that some minds will hold fast to what they believe and know to be truth!

    I am no judge!

But for me, in all honesty, as for you too, I could only listen for so long. So in that, we are equal...

I don't expect you to share my faith in God, but it sure would be nice to be able to see agreements swing for all of us, in more!

    Blessing Pedestal and much

    Love

    Kar

It is my opinion, and I am aware that it may be elementary and perhaps even ignorant; that the perspective of the average atheist is this:

One whom knows (yet refuses to admit) that there *IS* a Creator, yet, have through disappointment, pain and trials in this life, choose to deny His existence, perhaps to spitefully attempt to p i s s Him off, or hurt Him back. I think that atheism does not exist; God explains it so well like this:

"For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified [him] not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. **Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools** " ~Romans 1:20-22

So, it is clearly instilled into the heart of all mankind that there is a GOD; He is their Creator, and sooner or later, if they would just utilize the measure of faith that was given, they will KNOW Him and have a life of confusion and stress all straightened out. If they persist in the ignorance, God says then, basically "Fine then, I will give you what you want: dark, void, nothingness".

    Saying:

"Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.

And even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them" ~Romans 1:24-32

I cannot understand, from reading these texts (which are roughly 2,000 years old, and highly prophetic)....HOW anyone would WANT to become any of those vile attributes listed?

How are the minds so darkened, that they reject their ONLY HOPE?

Seek Jesus and His forgiveness and salvation, please!

-Enjoy your life and live it to the fullest.

-If the Christian God is real, I would not bow down to him.

-You're going to eventually die. Deal with it.

I can't tell if this is accurate, but I've seen some answers with this kind of thinking. It's bleak, but it's not as bleak as other ideologies.

    Edit:

-Better yourselves. Make the world a better place.
