My Repetitive Life in Yahoo 7! Answers. Have you too become disillusioned?
My Life in Yahoo 7! Answers
This started as a simple diversion,
With time I found faith; a full conversion.
Here were others keen to read and discuss,
Some exciting writings; never with fuss.
Thoughts were anonymous; without malice.
The “zap” like the shock of digitalis.
At last, purpose in my computer work;
I eagerly logged on, to read and lurk.
The sections of interest were narrowed down.
Poetry won ; with “a little how town”,
Cummings, an old friend, fanned dying ashes,
A love of words, sparked inspired flashes.
Once again, I secretly met Byron.
Read the impassioned songs of a siren.
Keats, Shelley, Lawrence, Browning and Wordsworth;
A lost romantic’s soul soared in rebirth.
This seduction grew; I sought out new works;
Reading angst ridden cries of all young turks.
Names became familiar, recurring;
Their raw words real; oft’ painfully stirring.
As a poster; consistent and astute,
My favourite poets, I would salute.
It was a joy to engage in banter
And receive replies from an enchanter.
I found some posters were out to defame;
I, like Don Quixote, set out to shame
These cowards who treated others like dills!
I really enjoyed my “fun” slap down skills.
Alas, it’s a short lived time in the sun,
Before come “the shadows” seeking to shun
All you say and do, spitting their contempt;
Even fragile confessions are not exempt.
So for me, it is back to the mundane,
Where I believe my post will not inflame
Substance addled egos of little fame,
Who so enjoy cutting open your vein.
Keen to watch as you slowly ebb away;
Or just fall apart, like the “One Hoss Shay”.

The evil genie of the internet
promised release you can then forget
carries a memory like a flaming sword
hanging a shadow o'er every word
We share our heart of vent our spleen
but once soiled we are never clean
our momentary flashes become our garb
and the need to clarify reinforces the barb
The further in the less there is joy
The internet's goal is to seek and destroy
your peace of mind and your sense of self
but you may find you can't toss it on the shelf
It will haunt your sleep and shadow your days
the internet mentality and all it's ways
the first time you LOL in a parking lot
or say WTF when your in a spot
It isn't Yahoo that is most to blame
but the void we fill with this worthless game.

Too new here, don't see things like this just yet. I know I will, as I've grown tired of many and better websites before, and this one doesn't seem particularly sanctified, but I still find a few gems here every day.
Also, I don't understand people getting too upset by hecklers and gadflies; if setting them straight grows old, just ignore them. The joy of the Internet, nobody is any more real than you let them be. Like phantasms, they don't exist without your permission.
Your poem is excellent, primarily, to me, in the thinking it inspires in its readers. Thanks. I hope it's not too late for you here, because you're right, the strong voices are greatly outnumbered by the wailing one-off poets of angst and first impassioned love who don't even care enough about their own poems to return and respond to those who take the time to comment.
Edit: Rayven, I see. Yes, much I don't know or understand here. Alas. I *have* taken on a troll or two, and I think even made the list of those who get some attention from them. I agree with your thought that this is too open a field for only one kind of game to be played, though. Conversations like this one keep it interesting to me.

I am begging to differ here;
my poet friend are true and dear.
The fluctuations in this place
I see as our saving grace,
and when the writes are less intense,
I give you this in my defense:
I'm still writing, no long days
of writer's block- the music plays.
So I hold within my grasp
a locket. I undo the clasp
and show the treasure set within:
poet's hearts, women and men.

This was well written, first of all, and I enjoyed it, just for that. Don't know if it was grown up enough, or not social enough, but those are a couple reasons I come out here. The classroom some would have this be, should not be reasonably expected in a forum with just as diverse options as this one has, despite its written intentions. I never expected this to be a poetic Nirvana where all could solely post masterpiece poetry and have it, still, critiqued by self-proclaimed masters, in their own beneficent attendance to our lesser needs, while gracing us with their own unparalleled works, thank ya Jesus for THEM!
There are countless poetry-specific sites where you could be doing just that; I'm, personally, here for the social discourse of admitted amateurs who, nonetheless, don't want to be daily reminded of that by "THE PUBLISHED ONES!"
And OW, tempting as it is to just ignore the hecklers, and I largely do, since I have no need for conflict, which I find absolutely antithetical to the goals I stated above, it isn't a matter of what you do, since you do not have the control that some others have "earned" and willingly wield, for whatever reason and to fulfill whatever rationale or criteria, such that your posts get removed, or your answers relocated to the very bottom of the pile due to excessive TD's! So this is often NOT ignorably innocuous!
However, again in agreement with Cassie, that will NOT run me off. I enjoy it and many out here, and see no reason to quit because I'm simply not up to someone else's standards! I am an anti-elitist, will so remain, and will take a stand here!

You 'n' me both, oak...this would be worth so much more o' me own angst, IF it were more serious. Gratefully, it is not!

The answer is yes. This place doesn't quite have the sparkle it had for me when I first arrived a year ago. However, it still has an attraction and I continue to post. I hope you will too. Good poem

Yowee I have always enjoyed your work, and mine can't compare,
but I hope you aren't leaving us? That would cause me some despair.
This made a very sharp point though I do agree. Hugs.

Yahoo!Answers carries whatever credence you assign to it.
For me, most of the time, it is a zero-sum formula. However, I have met a dozen or so incredible people on here...and I saw a new one today. I come back, but not every day.
I get fussed at for playing too rough sometimes. If I have ever injured anyone's feelings other than Peter's, please forgive me...

Mostly it's children who need help with homework assignments, who don't understand poetry and need interpretation. Other youngsters want to express themselves in poetry, but don't have the experience to write about much more than their own angst. Some of them have potential.
For us grown-ups, this is not really the place to post poetry. All of us are real to ourselves, but surrounded by phantoms of all sorts. I met a handful of people with similar interests who have become real to me. One of them has been in my home for a week, a woman from Canada, who is going home today.
For the rest, I'll post if I wish or answer questions. YAP caused a miracle to happen in my life and for that, I will be forever grateful.
