What would you do if you saw someone kick a puppy...?
I've just read a new article about another yob who was caught on camera, by a passerby, kicking a puppy with enough force to lift it off the ground.
and then it was dragged away on its lead..
These sort of articles make me feel both physically sick and angry.
If that was me, id make a quick call to the police, and then go and confront this big brave yob kicking a poor puppy.
I was just wondering what would anyone else do? or, what the right course of action is if ever i saw something like this?
@Steve S your answer has made me so angry, im not talking about a little kick, im taking about a full on beating and dragged on the lead because it was shaking with fear. It doesnt take a genius to see which of the two is the animal in that video
i dont believe there is such a thing as a bad dog, just a bad owner

If I could do so covertly - I'd film it and hand the story to the press and police in the hope this scum gets caught.
I would not confront the "man" - if they did that to their own dog, I wouldn't feel confident that they wouldn't harm my dog or my child - let alone me.
Incidentally - if anybody reading this is from the Woolwich area of London - please watch the video. You may be able to identify him.

As dog lovers, and if someone is looking at this section of questions chances are that they are, this is a difficlult call. Yes most peoples standard initial reaction would be to confront the assailant but we live in an age of increasing violence and the chances are that the sort of person who would ill treat a puppy like that would have little compunction in turning on you, perhaps with a knife or what ever. Now you may think me a wimp for advocating non intervention but you lying on the ground with your head kicked in would not help the puppy much. A better course would be to follow the person from a discreet distance and try to see where he lives or the number of his car. Certainly you can report it to the Police but how much effect that will have is debatable, definately report it to the RSPCA, they will follow it up. I do think that you need to realise that for some types of people violence is a way of life and their answer to any problem is lash out and hard.

You don't know what I would do if I ever met someone who did that! That's just terrible; absolutely sick! People really suck and I seriously don't see how someone could be so cruel to a poor innocent animals. They're assholes.
Steve S: You obviously don't know what your talking about. I have two big lab mixes. I walk them TOGETHER at the same time and yet I still don't have to kick them! Maybe your just not a very good owner and you need to take control of your dogs rather then beating them. I'm gonna kick you.

I've seen footage such as that too in an elevator and the puppy couldn't escape. Every time he would kick it he would yank the leash back forcefully just so he could kick it again and it just fills me with rage and frustration since I can't see the guys face or get at this guy in real life.
I wouldn't bother with the police all they'd do would fine him or lock him away. I'd stomp the son of a ***** and make shore he taste his own blood and forgets what day it is.

Call the RSPCA, although if I didn't know who the guy was I guess that wouldn't be much help....I guess you should call the police cos they could help ID the guy if he was caught on camera, or if I could remember what he looked like in detail.
I don't think I would confront him cos I wouldn't want to get beaten up, although it would depend on the situation and the individual.

truthfully, I probable might have snatched the canines up, and mutually as cradling it in my palms, and conserving the owner at bay, called the police. i'm sorry, yet there are some issues I won't tollerate. To me, this is basically like observing somebody beat their new child in public. i'm not speaking approximately spanking a naughty new child, yet truly beating a new child. i don't think that under any condition that any animal may be the recipient of any variety of actual abuse.

Intervene, promptly, effectively, and tell the RSPCA and Police if the yob didn't show any remorse. If they can do that to a puppy they'll be able to do it to a baby as well.

I would call the police because cruelty to an animal is illegal. I might or might not confront the person as people who are mean to animals don't mind being mean to other humans.

The great thing about mobile phones, or 'cells' as Americans call them, is that they have cameras! Video the ratbag, or photograph them, THEN call the police. You need evidence! Or it will be his word against yours.
Personally, if I was braver, I would snatch the puppy and run for my life! Then HE would call the Police, and I could explain why I took his dog...Nah, I'm fantasising. Call the cops, take photos for evidence.

correct course of action bedamned, if I saw this I'd go primitive on them. I may not look like much of a fighter (a willowy, kinda preppy girl) but I took silver medal in state for sparring and what I'd do to them would put the prizefight to shame... and said puppy would be leaving with ME
