Is someone trying to attack us with a Virus?

I have seen a few answers that I have reported as spam because they provide a link as an answer. But I just copied and pasted it and it brought me to a place that looked like a Yahoo page and said "Best Answer" on it and it requires you to click on the button to enter.

It looked too suspicious to me so I'm warning you guys to stay away. I have seen a few of them and they are different names answering questions saying things like: "your answer is here(with a link).

I'm going to find and post the one I just checked out so you guys could see what I mean.

Update:

@mohamma ali - It has to do with the good people who post on here who I care about. I want to make sure they know that there is a possibility that they could be a target for a virus.

So if your links are not virus, what are they? Are they spam? If they are, you are violating community guidelines.

So with your permission, I would like to get the word out to the other contributors here.

Don't post links - post the content!

Update 2:

Here is one of the different names using the same M.O.

If you click on the answers this name has posted to, you will see what the answers look like. STAY AWAY AND REPORT!!!

http://answers.yahoo.com/my/profile;_ylt=AnzBLRPLJ...

Update 3:

I'm just giving everyone a "heads up".

It might be nothing but it could be anything. ;p

Update 4:

I'm glad I was able to warn you all. I kind of have a knack for identifying when things are not kosher, so I've been told. An ex-girlfriend calls me "brujo", which means warlock but it is also used for "intuitives". It doesn't work if I'm looking for something. It just happens.

I have a good antivirus, firewall complete software but some of these hackers can develop some really ornery lil buggers! LOL!

Update 5:

I have also seen it under different names.

It could be malware or it could just be spam. I don't know I haven't clicked on the link to find out. I was a part of the malware fighting team last year but they did have a lot of ways to deal with it. If you wanted you could go to the suggestion board and ask about it. There are some (very) knowledgeable people there that could help out a lot.

Shihan J, If this is the type of thing I am thinking of it isn't that easy to stop. I think they are probably using a redirect link and that means that they can change what it says at any time and it will still work. Even if it is malware reporting it as spam and a non-answer should get rid of it... depending on your TR (trusted reporter) status.

The current browser I am forced to use right now doesn't let me copy and paste so I do suggest asking the people at the suggestion board. Careful about not posting the profiles or the actual link, that could get you in trouble there.

There are a lot of html and html5 tricks that people can pull. A lot of times if you have your browser's (Explorer, Firefox, etc.) security settings high enough and enable and disable certain features, a lot of those tricks won't work. Some even have to do with redirecting like OC Bujinkan pointed out. It gets annoying as it asks you a bunch of stuff over and over again. Firefox is different as it runs on mostly JAVA script rather than html where there can be a lot of worm holes.

If you have a good anti-virus software, it should be okay, all but to through caution to the wind. Ones like Norton or Mcafee are ones I avoid. Once their expired, they actually implant a temporary virus until you update (i.e. spend more money on their product). I stick with AVG free and MalwareBytes. I haven't had a single problem in 4 years. Before then something happened like every 3 months.

The link Sensei is referring to is a malware link. DO NOT CLICK ON THE BUTTON TO ENTER.

Please report the question - in the additional info box, just write 'malware'. Yahoo are aware of this, there are lots of people reporting these malware spammers via the Spam Battle thread. See the suggestion board for more info.

    Thanks for mentioning this, Sensei!

    Just to build on this:

the links that look like --

http://www.google.com/?s=http://72.173.192.103/~so... <-- THIS IS NOT A REAL LINK

Are using a normal redirection feature of google to redirect users clicking the link (thinking it's a google result) to an IP address.

Most of you are aware of links from bit.ly and other URL-shortening services. These can be dangerous too as you now don't have the URL as an identifier for what you're being passed to.

Frankly, if the link does not make sense in the context of the answer, don't click it. You're better off safe than sorry.

It would not surprise me as there are all types out there and I am sure someone got their butt kicked by some martial artist or their ego bruised by one sometime in their life and has now decided to get a little payback. I have my computer set up so that anything I go to is checked first by the virus software which then gives me a warning if it has been reported as a suspicious cite or one that is not registered and verified as safe.

i have seen the one your talking about, i suspect it was a virus by the way it looks and keep reporting it as such.

i wish YA would filter that link out it should be too difficult for them

    thanks sensei scandal

    edit:>

clowns you may be right, but the link looks the same every time and has an ip address in it, i would think they can set up some type of filter for this if they want, i do know they use filter in ya for certain criteria

oc bujinkan, i agree with you, dont clink on a link that doesn't make sense, but many people wont know about a bogus link

Thank you for the head's up.

@Mohammad Ali... a good martial artist is aware of the environment, and tries to use avoidance to avoid trouble. Sensei's warning was to make us aware of our environment, and allows us to avoid the problem. It is very much relevant to martial arts. Sensei could have reported it to Yahoo and left it at that, but apparently instead, felt a sense of duty to help out fellow martial artists. A loyal martial artist would not leave another out in the cold.

Yes i got it 2 times on my questions and reported both of them. The only link i put in is from yahoo answers or a reputable site like youtube

be very wary of any kinds of links, most questions asked here are more for opinion or personal experience type of question. The links i have seen don't appear to be spam though, i checked a few.

I wouldn't be surprised. I haven't been on here for a while because of the garbage that goes on in this forum.
