I have a legit question thats religious and political so im asking it here because i love you, kinda?

Its my personal belief and im not trying to make you think that way, just asking if this way of wording it sounds rude or if im just drunk.

It is of my personal belief that marriage is a religious institution and that America isn't, nor is meant to be a religious country. This is why I do not support nor reject the governments move towards same-sex marriage. I would prefer if the government didnt recognize marriage for anyone, but rather civil unions... and with whom i wouldn't care. But I know that is an unrealistic request so I normally just keep quiet because in the end, it doesnt affect me.

Update:

im trying to see if the wording of my personal beliefs is comming across how i want it to or not, i personally do not care if you think religion and marriage are or are not related... as i said... it does not affect me.

Update 2:

by no streach of the imagination did xtianity create marriage.... and i dont mean to say atheist that are marriaed are not. im glad i asked because obviously this isnt the best way of wording it... thank you :)

I didn't really find a question in there, but I agree with what you wrote. People who want religious marriages should be able to get them from their home churches and people who want civil marriages should be able to get them from the government.

To separate gay people from receiving this right is pure oppression and should never happen in a country like the USA.

The question here isn't what it's called, it's about the rights associated with the union. If gay couples had the same legal rights under a civil union that heterosexual couples have under a marriage, then I'm sure the majority of Homosexuals wouldn't give a crap about the name. I'm pretty sure (I know this varies country-to-country, state-to-state) that a heterosexual couple has no problem getting a de Facto relationship recognised, and that the same rights are applicable as though they were married!

greetings, my valued friend and contact!

I agree with you 90%---not that marriage shouldn't exist because it is "religious" but that civil unions should be available to all. Example---A single mother with an ex-boyfriend who would be an ussuitable father for their child should be able to form a civil union with an aunt, or her mother, so that if she dies or becomes unable to care for the child, the biological father will have a harder time claiming custody of the child.

Actually, that sounds perfect to me: let government define civil unions, and let churches define marriage. Then churches can squabble over who is & isn't Officially Married without forcing the rest of us to suffer the legal consequences of their prejudice.

That'll happen in the USA in about ... ah, who are kidding?

Your belief notwithstanding, marriage is not a religious institution but a secular one. That's why you have to buy a marriage license.

When did love become a religious thing? What do people think marriage is?

Marriage is not a religious institution.

That is not a matter of belief.

it is my view that marriage is a contract between two people and any religious overtones are about bonding in the eyes of their god marriage was originally a contract to bind a familys assets together then religion made it about a couple being united by gods

Marriage isn't only a religious ceremony.
