    Agreeing with the answers above...

Could be gassy (Ovol and gripe water are popular choices when our lil man has issues)

Hungry -- the comforts of moms arms can sooth our lil man sometimes, but when we put him down...he reminds us that hes not satisfied

Cool/Cold -- swaddling helps not only keep them warm, but feeling like you are still snuggling. They are easy to fool ;) Even when we dont need the extra blankets, they do.

Being exhausted and frustrated -- My second was colicky. I can say from experience, that the more tired, and frustrated I got.. the worse she seemed to get. A friend could walk in the room and sooth her just by taking her from me (shh, I will admit, made me jealous then.. thankful for help now)

When you know baby is dry, fed, warm... there is nothing wrong with putting her in a safe place (crib or bassinet) and let her cry a bit. It kills us mommies inside..but sometimes, they are just overwhelmed, and they will cry it out, and be better for it. About every few minutes, I would go over, and gently talk to her, give her the pacifier if she wanted it.. rub her back. When she calmed, or if I was loosing my cool, I would again walk away.

My fear was always, that if I held them for hours and hours, they would become dependant on it, and I would never be able to put them down.

Its not easy. Be strong :)

I was right there at 6 weeks. I don't have any answers why except that some babies are like that. I suggest if you are nursing her, nurse lying down so you can get some sleep while she eats. Or if not, just find a way to hold her but also sleep yourself. Also, getting a sling, or an ergo to carry her around in while you do stuff so that she can sleep while you do what you need to do during the day. Babies want/need to be with their mamas, and are very good at making it happen. It will get easier! Good luck!

My daughter was like that, it only began settling down when she began to get mobile. I strongly recommend you invest in an infant carrier of some kind - I have the Moby Wrap, and it was a life saver when my daughter was a baby, without it, everyone would have starved to death because she wouldn't even let me get dinner ready! There are plenty more types of carriers out there, just find one that you're comfortable with!

Good luck! he first few weeks and months are difficult, but it gets easier!

Sometimes babies won't sleep! Just make sure she is comfortable, fed, dry...and if you need help, then ask for it!

is she warm enough? burped? gassy?

sounds like she might be cold and as soon as she loses your body heat she wakes. Swaddle her and that should help.
