Guinea pig breathing problem?

My guinea pig Kelly (he's actually a male) has been wheezing after he runs or gets excited for about two days. Other than that, he seems absolutely fine- he's been eating almost a whole carrot every night along with loads of hay and pellets and is very energetic. The only reason I'm worried is because our whole family has had or fought off a cold this week and I actually narrowly escaped pneumonia. He isn't wheezing nonstop like when he had pneumonia once before- just after he runs, he opens his mouth like he's choking and kinda gasps- is this okay?

Update:

the thing is though, my dad says we can't afford a vet- and there's no way im gonna be able to talk him into it- if you think there is you don't know my dad :/ I'm confused because he's showing absolutely no other signs of illness and his breathing doesn't sound the slightest bit raspy when i listen- he just starts gasping out of no where after he runs... more like then they choke than wheezing except he's drawing in air instead of trying to dislodge food/etc.

Your guinea pig is experiencing an upper respiratory infection.

In the wild, guinea pigs are considered prey animals. Their instinct is to hide their emotions when they're sick so that they don't appear vulnerable to the hunters.

When guinea pigs noticeably start showing symptoms of illness, that is when it has started to progress.

URIs can kill your guinea pig as fast as his symptoms appear. If untreated without proper vet care, URIs are almost always fatal within 48 to 72 hours.. happened to my little baby too..

Vet visits are expensive, but it would be cruel to let the animal suffer and die slowly. Use your savings or ask grandma to help pay as an early birthday present... just don't not do anything about it, that's neglect.

    Hope this helped!
