Question concerning Matthew 25:14-30?
This section of Scripture deals with the parable of the talents. I wont post all the verses for space sake. If you've read this parable, then you know the basic gist of the story: To whom much is given, much is required....and it's not a good idea to bury our God-given talents away and not do anything with them. If I'm not mistaken, the word 'talents' here can mean not only our abilities, but also money. So with that said, here's my question:
If you know that you know that you have a God-given talent (in this case, an actual talent and not money) but yet.....all doors allowing you to utilize that talent seem to close on you.......where do you go from there? Do we keep pressing forward and continue to "knock on doors" so to speak....or do we give up and simply "bloom where we're planted" and let God's will for our lives come to us instead?
Your sincere answers are more than welcome, fellow believers. Thanks
-Primo

First off let's deal with the passage: We have to get out of our common english use of a word. Talents is like saying dollars (granted it's a much larger denomination). If we substituted talents with dollars, or gold nuggets, or Euros we would not have this confusion. Now, all that said the basic message of the parable is the master (Christ) is going away on a long journey which we could take to be him foreshadowing his own ascension in Acts 1:8. While he's gone he entrusts his servants with his possessions to manage them for him. He will then return when they don't expect and call them to account. Those who invested wisely will receive commendation and reward. Those who did not will receive condemnation and judgment.
So, to the initial recipients of the message they were being charged with how they would spend their lives to advance the Kingdom of God. We can apply the passage in a similar way today. This also goes into other ideas like Eph 2:9-10 where he prepared good works for us to walk in. They are to be not the outcome of knowing him.
Now when we consider your question: A talent that you have is part of your overall life. Thus, it and everything else at your disposal is held in stewardship to God. I think though as far as using a specific talent you need to be open but don't be too hung up on trying to force anything. In the proper time going back to the Ephessians verses you will walk in the good works that God prepared before hand. Be willing, be open, if you find opportunities that seem right step into them...but don't be in a rush for everything to happen now. That isn't how life tends to work out. Notice Acts 7 when you get a chance (Stephen recites the history of Israel...a very instructive part is where Moses realizes that he is to be the deliverer of his people but Stephen parathetically adds that the people did not realize this. Moses strikes down an Egyptian and spends the next 40 years in the desert licking his wounds. When God had an opportunity for him he made it very clear and Moses stepped into the role he was called to do. I think you let God be God and don't force it.
Just my opinion, but I hope it helps.
Best,
Todd

Primo,
As you know this passage is not talking about a person's God given talent(skill, ability). This as all parable is there to teach us a lesson. The reference was talent meaning money. That was naturally speaking. But this is a spiritual message. We often do things that are of no profit. That is being the unprofitable servant. God has only asked or required a few thing of us as being His children. If you want or desire more from God you must first do the little things that he require. You reap how you sow. If you sow little you will reap little. The little that is required is to love your neighbor, feed those that hungry, clothed the naked, help the less fortunate not just those that can help you. This is acts (works) of Love.
There is a difference in your gifts that God has given you. That is not the purpose of this passages of scriptures. You gift will make room for you. If the door appears to be closing you gifts you need to go in prayer and ask God what is he teaching you. There is something there for you to learn. God closes doors and He also opens doors. We have learn how to discern between the 2. Sometime we need to learn patience, humility or how to trust God. Other times we need to learn that God has something different for us now. We have camped at the mountain, But now it is time to pick up camp and move to the next destination.

Quick question for you. Do you know what the Kingdom of God is?
When you have been blessed by God and have the revelation of God's Kingdom, then this parable, along with all the other parables will be food for you.
Until then, all the parables will be a mystery to you.
Sorry, that is simply the truth.
Mark 4:10-13
10 But when He was alone, those around Him with the twelve asked Him about the parable. 11 And He said to them, “To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables, 12 so that
‘ Seeing they may see and not perceive,
And hearing they may hear and not understand;
Lest they should turn,
And their sins be forgiven them.’”
13 And He said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables?

If a person is doing what Jesus commanded and no door to the ministry is open...keep praying, witnessing, fasting, spending time with bible-believing christians, help the poor & needy, encourage the weak and discouraged.help widows indeed & orphans, read & study scriptures,Honor father & mother etc.In due season God will open any door He has planned for a person.Remember trials and tribulations are part of life.Burying a talent is not a good idea.

We should press on: imagine if Moses, Jeremiah, Daniel, Nehemiah etc had just sat down and said 'God obviously doesn't want me to go "through the door"'.
There's also the example from Hebrews chapter 11, and Martin Luther, the Wesleys, the Ten Boom family in Haarlem, the Netherlands (see Corrie Ten Boom's 'The Hiding Place'), Brother Andrew (see the book 'God's Smuggler'), and hundreds of other Christian examples.
Hope this helps: God bless, A.S.

I have a talent using poems. I've written many and shared them with others as God has led. I have one that needs to be a song. God led me to someone who can write the music to go with it. It's out of my hands now, and as I continue to pray, I have to just trust that God will make it all happen in His time. I've also written a book that needs to be published but sometimes, I just have to wait for God to open the doors.

If possible- bloom where you are planted.
Knocking on doors is too ineffective today- besides this activity casts much doubt on you before you even open your mouth. Use your talents where they can be most effective- like in church, youth group, camp, and so on. If you are older- then teach Sunday school or start a Bible study.
If you are a pastor or minister, then learn how to study the Bible, then learn how to preach it- first and foremost. This should be the number one function of a pastor. It should consume nearly all his time.If it doesn't- then he is doing something that others should be doing.

I think, that if you feel God has given you a talent with which to serve, yet none of the doors are being opened, then you will be inclined, in light of the Sermon on the Mount, to persevere, and in light of other Biblical verses, to be patient in doing so.
The Bible also teaches that a person should trust the Holy Spirit to lead them, and it seems to me that if the doors are not opening, then the Holy Spirit is not leading you to those doors.

Talents in this parable does not refer to or mean your given talents or money, it refers to the TRUE Words of God, the Seeds given you.
Many have been given the TRUE words (bread) from heaven, from the Father in heaven, through the words (bread) spoken by the Son, Jesus the Christ.
But because they want to be accepted and known as great by MEN, (the churches) they will disregard the true words from heaven and hear and believe only the words of men.
Therefore the true words from heaven will be taken from you and given to another.
The concept of Talents meaning money or abilities were given to you by MEN, and you believed MEN, therefore the true bread from heaven has been taken from you, and now you will believe every lie told to you by men as truth.

Talent many times are not used according to God's will.
For an ex. if I have a nice singing voice, but I use it to accumulate material things that takes me away from my relationship with my Creator, is he going to support me ?
If I am a good speaker, but brag about it, am I acting according to God's will of being humble ?
So whatever talent I may have, it would be wise for me to use it to further God's interests, not my own.
