How is prop 19 in California gonna pass if they have REPUBLICAN Governor?

Republicans are against marijuana. They want to raid and arrest states that sell it legally to cancer patients who need it even though the state allows it and at the same time say they are for "states rights". So how can California legalize marijuana for the liberals living there that want to smoke it when the Governor of that state is a Republican?

It's hardly a "liberal"/"conservative" issue. As one of many examples both Jerry Brown and Meg Whitman oppose Prop 19...as do the overwhelming number of major party candidates for all other current races...in other words, it makes no difference if you elect Democratic candidates, most of them are just as bad as most Republicans on this issue.

The War on Drugs was fashioned by both major parties and their candidates and continues with strong support from both major parties and their candidates.

The issue is one of individual liberty and neither of the major parties has an abundance of those willing to live and let live...most politicians cater to blue-nosed bigots and anyone else who can get them elected. In California and elsewhere, public employee unions and officials are a huge factor in determining who gets elected. Most law enforcement individuals and entities make money from having a War on Drugs...therefore, most cops and other law enforcement people see Prop 19 as taking money out of their pockets...since both Brown and Whitman need and heavily solicit cop support, both are opposing Prop 19.

The first major elected official to call for marijuana legalization in recent times was Gary Johnson, former Republican governor of New Mexico. In Oregon, Republicans passed the laws that made possession of an ounce or less a $100 ticket; former Democratic speaker of the State House of Representatives, Vera Katz, led the campaign to re-criminalize marijuana possession.

The proposition becomes law if the voters approve it. However, in the past the Democratic governors and attorneys general in the state have not defended laws passed by proposition in court if they do not agree with them. In this case, the outcome of the vote will not matter in any event, since Eric Holder, the US Attorney General has stated that if California legalizes marijuana, then the Obama administration will step in and enforce the federal laws within the state.

Prop 19 is on the ballot separately from the voting for Governor. It is just a matter of whether people think it is a good idea or not. You can still vote for Whitman and vote to approve Prop 19.

It will work as long as the DEA and the FBI dont raid peoples homes and arrest them.

You're an idiot. Republicans and Democrats are equally against MJ.

Both Brown and Whitman don't agree with prop 19, but it won't be up to them.

Some Democratic organizations throughout California are for it, but the DNC is against it (Including your messiah Obama).

There is plenty of ignorance to go around on both sides of the isle.

There are also right wingers who support 19.

You really need to get your facts straight before you give a "Pass" to liberal Democrats by ASSUMING that they're for it, when they're not.

Repubs or Dems, neither has the testicular fortitude to question the archaic ban on MJ.

Wasn't it Eric Holder, Democrat, who declared that Federal marijuana prohibition would be "rigorously enforced" by him and his department under Obama?

And didn't Arnold Schwarzenegger sign a bill that decriminalized marijuana in California just a year or two ago, turning it from a misdemeanor to a less severe penalty (the precise word escapes me at the moment, I'm sleepy)?

Governor can't do a thing about it. By the way obama said he will fight prop. 19. You should follow the news more and understand the difference between legislation and a proposition. One can be vetoed the other can't

I've seen republicans and democrats who both support and are against legalizing it, so this question is a bit of a generalization.

Libs smoke dope , so we legalize it , tax the shyt out of it , take the profits from the Lib dope dealers and Mexican drug cartels and pay some bills.

    Sounds like a plan , doesn't it ?
