Treadmill problems, runs smoothly, then stops with a jerk and starts again just as fast?

my father recently purchased an old treadmill from a garage sale. Its been running fine until just recently. Now when I start it up, the belt runs smoothly until I start walking/running on it, then it will jerk to a stop, and then start just as soon as it had stopped-its almost flung me face-first many times. What's wrong with it?!

sounds like the drive belt is loose or stretched out. Unplug it, get a screwdriver, take the motor cover off and take a look. If it is not too old you should be able to get parts for it

are you touching the emergency cord? It's usually tied to the front and people attach it on their shirt or something, and once you move it abruptly, it automatically stops the treadmill.

If it's not that, and since you got it at an old garage sale, most likely it's broken. call the seller and ask him why it doesn't work. if it really is broken, give it back to him and get your money back. he shouldn't sell you broken junk.
