As long as your water hasn't broken and you aren't having contractions 5 or less minutes apart, you can stay home and be as comfortable as possible. You could actually stay in this state for weeks, so being dilated doesn't really determine when full labor will start. Your baby will be fine.

i was 3 cm for about 5 days and then my water broke . my little man was born at 36 weeks . they say usually a white males lungs do the worst and are under developed . my daughter was born at 37 weeks and 2 days and she was fine and my sons lung were fine . i would ask her what are the side effects of the shot . it never hurts to ask alot of questions . i know they say you have to get the shot once then the same time 24 hours later and it takes like 2 days for it to work or something like that im not sure i have never had it but i thought it was a several day process and that just one shot didnt do anything . the hospitals here will not give you the lung shot after 34 weeks

Most hospitals won't make you stay until you are 4 cm dilated. If your water hasn't broken yet, then there should be no danger for you or your baby right now. However, if your water does break, or your contractions pick up more, then you should definitely go to the hospital.
