How would I find the signal of my wireless router?

I need to find the relationship between signal strength and distance from my router to my computer. I need a program that displays average signal strength and i will plot signal strength and distance on a graph. I'm running linux so i need a program that will give a signal percentage and not signal bars. What program can I use or mod to give me these #s

Update:

Can I get a program name preferably a linux program but I will give microsoft programs a shot on wine

Usually you can open a terminal and type:

    iwconfig

    -or-

    /sbin/iwconfig

and it will have the information under "Link Quality."

There are devices made for what you are trying to do...google wifi signal strength meters. There is hardware and software packages that will give you what you want.
