getting a st bernard/newfoundland cross rescue puppy do you recommend a male or female and why? she has both?

Yes we have plenty of room and 4 kids to help exercise it

Update:

I want a puppy because I want to make sure they adapt to having people around all the time. As a stay at home mom who is a babysitter and 4h leader there is constantly people in and out my door. If however I had no children at home I would not hesitate to rescue an older dog.

Male or female as long as it is fixed, it is amazing how much getting rid of those extra hormones calms a dog down.

In general I find neutered males a bit calmer and gentler than females though

I don't recommend puppies at all for anyone with young kids. Get the mama dog.

Please remember, once the newness wears off, you'll be doing all the work. Do you really have time and energy for it?

Edit: You doing day care and having a puppy...absolutely not. A puppy will most certainly nip a child, and that's a potential lawsuit for you. Not to mention that not all of the kids you babysit will be good with puppies. Puppies are easily injured and killed by kids who drop them, step on them, fall on them, etc. I wouldn't risk it at all. Adult dogs adapt just fine. They are much calmer and much less likely to bite.
