Self Defense DVDs for women?
Hi,
Im looking for online DVDs that teach self defense techniques or some type of martial arts specifically for women. Please make your suggestions based on DVDs you've already tried out or know someone who has and gave nothing less than excellent reviews. Also, pricing needs to be reasonable/affordable ($50 or less).
Thanks in advanced!

Hi there! I have purchased a self defense video 3 weeks ago and indeed I find the techniques to be simple and easy to learn. They also have other DVD's. I got it from the site provided below. By the way, I purchased fast and furious street smarts. =)
Hope this helps.

I recommend choosing one of the DVD products from http://www.targetfocustraining.com/all-products
There are a number of reasons why I recommend it for men but especially for women seeking quality self defense training.
A lot of women have problems generating intent/will to harm because of societal expectations or personal beliefs. TFT will teach you to strike people using your own power, without at the same time becoming an anti-social person, an aggressive woman, or something similar that is often on the mind of women training in this field. For both men and women, there is a very useful lesson on separating out criminal violence and normal anti-social fighting. The chaos of violence is made orderly and completely understandable to the student. That's one particular benefit I found noteworthy from this system.
TFT is based upon principles and proper mechanics. It does not matter how strong, old, fast, or flexible you are. The principles apply to all human bodies, whether young or old, female or male.
I've personally seen the Joint Breaking, Nuclear Weapons, and Striking DVD series. You did not mention what specific life goal or security arrangement you were seeking from a self defense system, so I can't recommend any specific one. I can say that any one of those listed on the product page will have a complete course. Nothing there is a partial that leaves the advanced stuff out or something that leaves what a beginner needs to know left out.
If you are worried about the price, use the trial system. It was either 2 months or 6 months and if you are not convinced the DVDs are what you wish for, you can send them back for a refund. Although the guarantee is in the quality of the system and instructors, not the refund, if you ask me.
P.S. While there are a lot of self defense and martial art scams out on the internets, I personally vouch for the character of the TFT instructors. There's no risk in seeing for yourself, however.

I have yet to see any video that can teach a novice martial arts or self defense. In my opinion, videos are only useful as supplements to training and not to be used as the sole resource for learning.
With the motion detection games and software that are coming out for the game consoles we may see in the future some form of media that can start teaching physical skill sets, but as of now they don't exist.
The only way to learn from a martial arts video is to already have a very strong foundation in the martial arts. Then you can learn from videos of other styles and training methods from the perspective of your own experience.

No one from anywhere can learn proper self defense for any sex from a DVD. You will be wasting someones time and money. Most self defense DVDs I have seen and own are a rip off. I have been teaching self defense for years and know what it takes. There are a few other Master instructors here who I hope can weigh in. I understand that yo may have limited resources and time. I can only again say study from a piece of junk DVD will only give you a sense of false security and when you need your self defense it will fail.

No one has ever successfully learned any martial arts from a book or a video. Contact your local police and town recreation departments. Maybe they can direct you to a class. I've seen classes for $50. That way, you can get a teacher to show you exactly how to do a move and correct any mistakes. Go with a friend, so you can practice one in a while to stay safe.
