Republican plan to end over-time pay....?
The wife just found out from a friend who attends the same MBA program. This friend works for a U.S. Congressman who I will not name. At present a company can only pay salary only under certain circumstances. Republicans plan to pass a new law stating that a company can pay salary to any employee so long as the total wages does not go below minimum wage.
If this passes your employer will be able to work you 80 hours per week and only have to pay about $600. Where now they would have to pay about $750.
While overtime pay will not actually end, employers will be able to place any employee on salary.
This will only give employers the option to pay any employee salary.

I think this will depend on state law. My husband has always done sales work on a commission basis. He has always had to work 60 hours per week and sometimes more. I checked into this years ago when he was working for a company that was literally working him to death. I was told by the labor department in our state as long as his hours and pay were at least equal to minimum wage they did not have to pay overtime. They may be trying to pass a federal law that will make this a federal mandate.

The one Congressman your "friend" works for may plan to introduce such a bill, but it is unlikely that the rank and file would support such a thing. Sounds like political demonizing to me, not factual.

Meg Whitman wanted to do this. She wanted to end employee breaks and overtime pay. Must be nice to be a billionaire and not be concerned with these issues.

I seriously doubt this.. Since many states have their own over time laws...
This is just like liberals always saying that Republicans are going to ban abortion....
