Which is more comfortable, dress shoes or loafers?
I have a new night job working in retail and the dress shoes I use for my day job are killing me when working at night. Plus they are damaged easily. What dress shoe do you recommend? Is there any real difference between dress shoes and loafers?
Thank you for that but I forgot to mention that I am male.

I think the most comfortable shoes are ones that tie. That way you can adjust them to you feet since your feet swell and shrink.
And you do not need to spend lots of money. Inexpensive shoes from Payless can be fine. However I do find that you never know which cheap shoes will be comfortable so I usually buy a few different ones
Now if you are looking for heels .... ;)

To answer your question, I think modern style dress shoes are equally as comfortable as loafers are.
When moving around a lot, you definitely want a shoe that has more give in it. Dress shoes are generally made to be stiff so the leather doesn't crease or pucker at all, and that is likely the cause of the pain. My recommendation is to go into a store, and give each of the shoes a good bend. Avoid polished leather, and look for something that you can bend to a 75-90 degree angle. I really like Kenneth Cole's Unlisted brand slip ons for working retail, and they still look good for office jobs, and my last pair lasted 2 years worth of 10 hour days.
These are nice:

Another option is to go to Target or Walmart, and get a second pair of shoes specifically for the retail job. I bought a pair of Loafers there for $20, and I wore them for 6 months (they looked pretty ratty by that point, but 6 month isn't bad for $20)
Good luck

loafer shoes can look very nice with dress clothes, there are many type loafers for men and a lot of them are dressy.
