Capital Punishment, should it be brought back into the UK?
I would like to see it brought back.
The UK is a mess and to be honest in some cases it is a HUGE waste of resources to keep people in prison 'for life'.
I think it should only be used for extreme cases and should be voted for by the general public whether or not they should infact 'swing'.
it could also work as a major deterrent and criminals would think twice.
I have stopped reading the news because some things i honestly think there is no excuse for and the punishment should match the crime for cases like that of Baby P.
I would like to everyone else's opinion on this

When i read about case like Baby P I also feel anger and the desire for vengenace, but I would definitely not want the death penalty brought back.
It is uncivilised and lowers scoiety to the level of a criminal, there is a the risk innocent people being killed by the state and it doesn't work as a deterent, as you can see by the higher crime rates in countries which have the death penalty.
Not that cost should be a factor in deciding such an issue, in the USA studies have shown it is more expensive to keep someone in death row than in prison for life.

Actually the evidence suggests that it would not work as a deterrent. And if you want a general election as part of the process, it's going to cost a lot more than life imprisonment.

am in two minds about the death penalty to be honest........but still think it should at least be an option on the table.
BUT that said you might want to look up the FACT that Tony Blair gave away the chance for EVER that the UK could have the death penalty reinstated........so yet another thing we can thank tony for, for HIS touchy feely bs the rest of the UK can never ever EVER have the death penalty brought back as an option.
