Does anyone believe Magnum Research or Hi-Point would still be in business?
if their firearms were as worthless as most commenters claim?

Hi-Point pistols fills the "crappy gun that should work" niche. If they were to go away some other company would still fill the niche. Hi Point carbines are actually commended by the those that have used them, and for the cost are a great little plinker.
Magnum Research, on the other hand, produces some beautiful firearms, one of which is over-discussed. The Desert Eagle is a viable handgun for hunting, grizzly protection, and few other roles, but due to video games they get a bad rap due to incessant questions/proclamations about its greatness. Myself, I want one purely for the fun factor, but I hear it jams a lot for a lot of people, and generally isn't really all that. A better gun by Magnum Research has to be their BFR. I really, really want one in .45-70 Gov't but I have limited funds and have many guns on the wishlist before that one.
I definitely wouldn't put the two companies in the same category.

people say there worthless and i agree but magnum research has the cool factor behind it i mean realistically how many people you know have a .50 cal hand gun with a tiger finish thats just awesome would i buy one no but still someone has the money to waist so let them do it. the hi point i mean there is no way you can beat a handgun for less than 150 is it reliable i dont know it is ugly as hell but who cares its a cheap gun you can buy and have some fun with....all and all no they wont people like cheap toys/expensive bragging rights

Magnum Research has a large product line.

It is just the Desert Eagle that people love to hate or love to love.
Hi-Point makes a low-price gun for a specific market. That market will continue to buy it based on price alone. Their products work, but you get what you pay for.

The Deagle has the movie and video game glam to back it up. Hi Points are occasionally reliable and super cheap. Both have their little niche to fill, so they'll probably be around a while.

yes.
People don't buy hi point because it is a solid yet economic weapon, they buy hi point because it is all they can afford.
people don't buy Deagles because they are solid and well-built, they buy them because they see them in movies and video games.
Just like a designer label on your T-shirt doesn't make it any stronger, warmer, more long lasting, etc etc, yet people pay premiums for that too.

Hi Point has the gang banger crowds money, Desert eagle has the video game crowds money.
Lorcin, Jennings, Bryco and Raven were in business for many years and they are all known to be pot metal JUNK guns, yet they stayed in business for decades. People do willingly buy junk, sometimes it's ignorance, mostly it's economics.

They are both in business. Mag Reserach is still up in Minnesota and Hi-Point is produced and marketed by MKS in Ohio.

hi-point still exists because many people can't afford anything else or many new shooters think there getting a steal.
As for magnum research they are a high end gun maker. I don't really hear anything negative about them.

the only reason hi-point is still around is the cheapness of their gun make them appealing to low income bringers and magnum research because there will always be people looking for something to make themselves look manly, or to compensate to something else :P
