College Schloarship of illegal hispanics?

I have a friend who is a really good goalkeeper. I asked him if he was going to college and he said he had no money and him and his parents are illegal. He is suprisingly smart(B and C student) Is there a way he can get a soccer schloarship and go to college, altough he is illegal

    Hi

Well, he can go to community colleges and apply for financial aids. In some states illegal students are allow to go to college and get help. Rising Stars is a scholarship that help anyone no matter if i legal or illegal but I don't know if it is offer in all states. Like in Texas there he can get a lot of help if he graduate from a Texan high school.

He can ask to his counselors and they may have information that could help.

No. Illegal aliens have no right of any means tested benefits, ever, no matter how smart they are.

Really smart would be to leave the US before 180 days after his 18th birthday has passed, as this way he would avoid accumulating illegal presence in the US. Understand that the US Government does not hold children responsible, but if they become adults they are indeed responsible for themselves.

If he's a good student, he can apply to colleges as an international student. If accepted, he will get an I-20 form. He goes back to his country, Mexico, I presume, and from there applies for a student visa. With the I-20 and proof that he can afford school, he will get it and then enters the US legally. Once he entered the US legally, the world is open to him. One day he may get married and gets a Green Card.

None of these option exist if he stays past the 180 days following his 18th birthday.

His only hope would be to get a private scholarship at a private school. Even then, what would your friend do once he finished college, if he did? He wouldn't be able to work here legally.

If your friend is 18 1/2 or younger, he can return to his home country and apply for a student visa to come here legally. Who knows--he might even find a school willing to pay him to play soccer. AND best of all, he'd have a shot at getting a LEGAL job after he graduated.

Since when does a 'B and C student' = 'smart?'

B's and C's mean that he is just getting by and is not really applying himself academically.

About the only thing for him to do is return to Mexico and go to school there.

He can go to school in Mexico for free and play there. He only has to take the state test, and he can be admitted into UNAM

If California weren't broke it would be more than happy to give your friend a scholarship. His best bet is to seek a scholarship in his home country where assumedly soccer is a bigger deal than it is in the US.

Maybe if he leaves and comes back...he really shouldn't be allowed to go to school here in the first place.
