Why won't my cough go away?

Ive had this cough for about 2 or 3 weeks. Ive drunk tea, used cough drops, used cough liquid medicine. Nothing will work. It doesnt hurt when I cough, its just getting really annoying. The weird thing is I dont cough in my sleep. But once I wake up, I'll start coughing again. Sometimes the cough will go away for a hour or 2 then it will come back. It doesnt seem like its clearing up. Can u tell me what the problem is? How can I get rid of this cough.

Update:

I feel perfectly fine except for this annoying cough

it could be a lot of things maybe bronchitis maybe just chest congestion or maybe a slight case of whooping cough. i would use delsyum (sp) syrup, its in an orange box with blue writing and is over the counter.it really works. but if it keeps happening after 7 days i would go to the doctor.

Well there could be a couple reasons why you continue to have this cough. You might have strup throat, which tends to be very irritating. Maybe you have an allergy? Other symptoms of allergies can be itchy eyes. Or maybe your area in which you live is very polluted? This might be the reason if you notice other people coughing constantly as well. This is probably not it but possible, there is this virus you can get from kissing other people who have it or drinking from someone else's beverage i forgot the name though sorry I think it starts with an m though.

Source(s): I believe I had strup throat last year and my cousin had the virus with the kissing and sharing beverages.
