External HDD used as internal....?
is it possible to use the HDD inside an external HDD as an Internal?....
I just took apart a WD External 160 GB and stuck it inside my Desktop.....but instead of booting its making these strange robotic like noises......here's whats weird the HDD that is originally inside my desktop is exactly the same as the one in the external.....same model and everything...
im not sure if its PATA.....and yes the power cable is in....everything is connected on the outside and inside....
it should be working exactly like the one I had inside just a few minutes ago.....its the same one....except this one came inside the external enclosure....

its a Dell Dimension 2400....these things are a pain work with (hardware wise)......nothing works with them.....

Make sure you have them set as a master and slave drive and your jumper setting are correct. You didn't say what type of computer you are using but this could solve the problem.

there are small jumpers on the hard drive (assuming it's an IDE PATA drive). you must not have two masters on one ribbon cable, make sure the new drive is set as a slave.

Noises are not good.
If this is a PATA drive, make sure the jumper is set to the appropriate jumper.
