Can Republicans/those opposed to the Health Bill help me clear something up?

Ok, so let me set up right from the start that I'm not trying to prove a point or trip someone up or be clever by making others look a fool. I see enough politicising on here and not enough fact-searching. I'm a member of neither party, I'm not even from the U.S. - so you can tell me to mind my own business if you like - I just want a few decent responses.

So now that's out of the way, what I want to know is this: do you have a better solution? For many years there has been a bit of a problem with people getting access to healthcare. The bills were too high, people were having trouble getting the right care, people were having to leave the country to get the drugs they needed because it was cheaper. The number one reason for people going bankrupt was medical bills. Clearly there was a problem. Yet it seems everybody is opposed to this bill which helps people afford healthcare. Why? If you are against the bill, what other solutions do you have? Do you think it is right that people were losing their homes (or worse - their lives) because they couldn't pay medical bills?

The second part of my question is this: if you have medical insurance, which I assume most of you do, why are you against the idea of being forced BY LAW to buy it? You were paying for it anyway, so what's the problem? From what I understand, the bill ensures you get a decent price anyway, no?

Thank you for reading my rather long question(s) and I hope there will be rather more mature responses than some of the other tit-for-tat squabbles I've seen on Yahoo Answers.

    1. My biggest problem with the sweeping healthcare reform is that I don't think it's being done by the right people. The AMA is involved, but that's less than 10% of all the physicians in the country. There aren't many people who will say that it's a perfect system. I'm a nurse, I know that there are problems! I would rather that we look at fixing the holes instead of scrapping the whole thing and starting over. And I think there should be more input from healthcare workers than politicians.

    2. I don't like the idea about being forced to buy healthcare because I think people have the right to be idiots if they really want to. People -should- get healthcare insurance. It's pretty stupid not to. But we let people do stupid things all the time and don't pass laws against it. Living in a free society means that you have the freedom to be stupid.

The erroneous point that people die in America without health care is simply not true. Just last year two con man were arrested in NYC for defrauding the government they set up a health care clinic and were rounding up homeless people to sign on in less than a year they bilked the U S government out of millions of dollar does that sound like we let people die in the street?

We have heard of the free and better health care in the U K and Canada but we have also hear their P /M [Brown] go on their telly to apologise for the hundreds of needless death in their hospitals We have heard from D Hanna of their dirty and under staffed hospitals

Canada flew an English actress over night to the U S they told us she was already dead so that would explain why it was over night with a doctor

Canada flew a women to America to have her record 8 kids they tried to tell us there was a bed shortage so that would explain why the flew a high risk

One of their government ministers came to the U S to have his operation one would think they wanted to save the really good doctors for the people

These sites were alive with how the U S as on par with Cuba in health care ,per the U N, but they never explained why they flew in doctors and equipment from Spain to care for Castro

Some people do go bankrupt who are very sick and don't have health care insurance but the fact is they can't work if they are that sick if it is their children they can make payments but I find it confusing hear you saying they go broke because they can't pay their medical bill or die because they can't get health care It is stupid and insulting to Americans

No, I don't have a solution but do know gov takeover is not the answer nor fines legal, the republicans wanted to attempt TORT reform.

That and Obamacare takes in 10 yrs of tax revenue for 6 yrs worth of usage

This bill has raised health care costs.

Under the Constitution federal gov cannot force you to buy anything,,,,,what will be next?

There is nothing wrong with private insurance. Go to work and pay for what you want. Obama care is a glorified welfare program that will benefit dead beats only while the working class gets taxed to death to pay for it. Socialism is great until you run out of other peoples money, which will happen.
