    Do you mean acetyl l-carnitine rather than l-carnitine. It is acetyl l-carnitine that is said to help fibromyalgia patients:

    http://www.endfatigue.com/tools-support/Acetyl-l-c...

    Anecdotally, at least, acetyl l-carnitine looks to improve sleep also in some users:

    Perhaps it stands to reason also that anything which improves fibromyalgia-like pain will help promote better sleep... Not sure about the drowsiness though. If it makes you drowsy just be sure you take it at night just before sleep... rather than earlier in the night or day time (avoid that).

    Best wishes.

    :::edit:::

    hi moped mama, sorry to confuse you. Perhaps you should discuss this with your doctor as you seem to be concerned by the drowsiness.

    Some recommend either i.e. l-carnitine or acetyl l-carnitine for fibromyalgia:

    ...you also find recommendations to take both:

    http://psyweb.com/FMS/fibromyalgia.jsp

    So perhaps you ought to discuss this with your doctor.

    ...i am surprised l-carnitine makes you drowsy at all though because it is said not to cross the blood brain barrier, whereas the acetyl form is known to cross the blood brain barrier. Maybe there are exceptions or maybe the formula [i.e. combined with other substances] has something to do with that because if it makes you drowsy it could imply that it is crossing the blood brain barrier. If it helps you and you experience no daytime drowsiness then i see no problem with continuing. But if you feel any daytime drowsiness then see your doctor and don't drive or operate machinery. Because you seem concerned anyway.....discuss this with your doctor better. All the best. Take care.
