Running WinXP and Win7 simulataneously..?

I was using Win7. Had to install WinXp for running a particular software. Now, i have lost access to Win7! When i computer starts now, i dont get any option to choose an operating system for booting. WinXP is loaded by deafult. Will reinstalling Win7 over WinXP work..?

P.S: i have 5 partitions in all; all of them formatted as ntfs.

Why do you need XP? If it doesn't need to access all your hardware, consider installing Windows 7 Pro - from a disc boot so it will overwrite everything there already. And then use XP mode for your fussy software. Flipping back and forth is a lot faster than rebooting to get the other OS.

You can upgrade but cannot downgrade that is you can't install xp by entering in to win 7

you just do this now you have win xp in ur system, then run win 7 setup after installed everything option will come at boot up,but remember install windows 7 on other drive that is windows xp not must there in that drive,if windows xp is in c drive then install win 7 in d ok
