Concerning tire pressures?

I saw one question and it made me think of many others.

There is my normal pressure of 35 while the tire is cold.

1 - What is cold? If I am on a long trip of several hundred miles they will be hot and the pressure will rise. Do I stop and bring them down to 35?

2 - If I am driving through the Rockies where altitude goes from 2000 feet to 9000 feet, do I change the pressure if I am staying in the higher region?

3 - Does the penny w/Abe's head still used to measure the tread depth for replacing the tires.

4 - If changing tires, even though I rotate them every 5000 miles two wear out sooner that the other two, should I change all four? If only two, should I use the identical tires?

5 - How often should I get an alignment? Is it right for the tire company to charge for an alignment if one is not needed? If so, how can I get assurance that it is really needed before I agree to a price?

That should do it for now....OK people 10 points here

1 No,after your tires are heated up if you check them you are looking for even pressures(assuming they were correct when you checked them cold). You don't let out air to bring them down to 35.If you have a low tire when checking them hot you would inflate it to the same psi as the others.

#2 I would just leave them alone

#3 I think the guide has changed from a penny to a different coin, but i'm not sure offhand what it is(maybe a quarter now).

#4 If you rotate your tires regularly they should wear evenly unless you have a suspension problem like alignment or a worn suspension part.Always match the tire size and type. They don't have to be the same brand though(although that's wise to do also).

#5 Get an alignment anytime you get new tires or if you hit something like a curb.Have it checked if your car starts to handle funny, like pulling to one side or you notice uneven tread wear.

    1. cold is first thing in the morning

    2. shouldn't make a big difference, if you plan on staying there then its not a bad idea to check them again

    3. yes, to abe's head is 2/32 of an inch, tire manufacturer recommends replacement at 4/32, state of nh fails tires at or below 2/32

    4. it's always good to replace tires in sets of 4 and rotate every 5 to 6 k, for even wear

    5. alignment check should be free most places, done or checked twice a year, or when replacing tires, ask for a print out or look at the alignment screen before and after the adjustments are made

you do not prefer to be on the optimal. the interior the door ought to provide some numbers. For wearing distinctive a lot or towing. in case you have a million value you ought to use what you have on the door, yet 29 on a 50psi tire interior reason low. whilst you're making use of a motor vehicle opportunities are high this is a overall performance motor vehicle or overall performance tires. If this is a truck nicely then you definately've heavier accountability tires. i've got checked and set pressures in tires for close to to ten years as component of my activity, keep and coaching workers. i won't rigidity it sufficient you do not prefer to be on the optimal psi. you are able to surely advance the PSI previous the 29psi in those 2 situations. i might have those tires set at 35 psi for a snug journey, or 40 psi for a extra corporation journey with extra advantageous gasoline financial equipment. 40 8 is merely too intense. in basic terms do this whilst you're wearing a heavy load.

  • You're making it too complex. Don't base tire pressure on room temperature, because if you live in Antartica, then you're going to have flat tires all the time. Base your tire pressure on the temperature of the morning of the day that you are driving it. And test before you drive instead of after. The big thing - make sure they're even throughout.

wow you sure make simple thing diffucilt

1 check tire pressure at 50 to 70 degrees,,,if it real cold, just put the 35 and forget it,,,.never drop pressure,,,when cold it will be too low,

2 rotated tires should all wear at same time,,,lol should

3 if your spending 200 to 400 for tires get the alignment

4 if you have them check the alignment..you pay..its one of them deals,,,helps to look at how your old tires wear,,,

Save yourself a lot of headaches. Once a month, check your air pressure in the morning before you drive anywhere. Adjust each tire to 35 psi. That is it. Then drive it where you want.

Inflate tires when they are cool to the manufactures recommendations and leave them set.

Same type of tires are recommended.

Observe the wear pattern on the tires, that will show you is an alignment is necessary.
