Urge to get a piercing while depressed?

For the past year my depression has been up and down. Lately its been going on and i just really want to get a piercing or tattoo. I dont want attention, ive been keeping to myself lately. I feel like i want one because it will release the pain, anger and hurt that is in my head and heart. I dont want to sound weird or emo but is it normal to want to get one while really depressed?

Thanks!

Oh and btw im a sophomore in high school if that helps any.

It is normal to feel like you need to apply pain, this is because when you receive pain, your body releases endorphins that are used to calm the nervous system. However there are other safe options that can help relive stress and depression.

First: Exercise. Are you in any sports or PE? If you are not then this can build up hormones causing you to feel stressed and depressed. However if you are then try switching out because this could be adding to the stress, but still keep exercising even if its a light run twice a week.

Second: Talk it out. Try seeing your councilor when you are upset, just tell them you are feeling depressed, and just talk to them about what is going on in your life, they would be willing to just talk with you to help you through tough times. Don't forget about your friends, just hang out and have a good time and keep your mind off things for a little while.

Third: Sleep. Make sure you are getting enough sleep every night at least 8 hours, this will help you relax and get you mind out of the gutter.

Fourth: Music. Try listening to music, some people like to relate to music this could possibly make you relaxed.

Fifth: Eating Right. Make sure you have 3 full meals during the day, this will keep you focused and not let your mind wander into depressing thoughts. Try to follow the recommended servings and staying away from sugar.

Some of these ideas may or may not work overnight, depression is a hard thing to deal with and it just takes some time and effort to get through it.
