Darwin, Northern Territory. How to pronounce this street name?

I've been to Darwin twice in the last year and I love it, but one thing I've never quite been sure of is how to pronounce the name of one of it's major arterials: namely, Bagot Road. Is it pronounced "Bag-got", or "bar-zhoe/bar-joe," as in the surname of various pompous old British and French notable figures?

    Bagg-et. No fancy French pronunciation in the Top End :)

    It is the name of a Aboriginal family - the Bagot Mob

    Locals pronounce it like 'bag-et', there isn't any emphasis on the o-t. Most of our street names are pronounced as they are written.
