Do we need will power or do we have to figure out why we resist so much to be enlightened, awakened.?

I know that the best thing I can do for myself and as a service to humanity is to truly purify and wake up. But I am stocked in the mud. I meditate, do Yoga, cures which are so helpful and yet I resist the light. I waist my time, I smoked cigarettes to bring my enrgy level down.. I do not know how to figure this out. Am I lacking will or is there some unconscious stuff that possesses me . How do I bring this to my awareness

Update:

Thank you all, I do not put thumb down.

Update 2:

I will respect beleives in religion but I hope that you can accept my no name and form in all sages and all of you.

Do we need will power or do we have to figure out why we resist so much to be enlightened, awakened?'

Neither, to awaken ones consciousness one must begin at home so to speak. It is good that you practice yoga and meditate; these of course do help in raising consciousness, but are of little use by them-self. The key here, is the development of ones psyche, that is ones personality. However, developing ones psyche is not for the faint-hearted as one will be faced with aspects of their character they would rather leave, but to do so, only pushes the problem further into the unconsciousness’ where it waits in the mire until one is brave enough to face those issues head on and deal with them. Developing ones psyche is therefore an arduous road for any individual as it involves being completely honest with one-self. Once such a road is undertaken, one begins too understand oneself in a new light and the world in which one lives, because one begins to experience 'shifts in consciousness,' and hence too experience moments of enlightenment, which are but fleeting moments. Moments when a long thought out idea is reached and spiritual understanding gained, but alas such moments become quite intangible, they cannot be grasped, yet the shift in consciousness remains.

It is an ongoing process, since one is developing their character with all the pains and joys, which come with such a process.

However, I would add, by way of encouragement, while yoga and meditation are helpful, one needs too enhance nature into their being also. This is achieved by simple quiet countries walk, clear the mind of all thoughts, and listen to the call of the birds, absorb the atmosphere, smell the scents, be at one with your surroundings, combine all this and you will experience change. It will not happen over night, but if kept up, one will see results within months.

    Live well.

Like your desire to build a healthy body, you need to exercise and take note of the foods that you take in to your systems. A service to humanity is an outward way of expressing your compassion, charity and love. You cannot give anything out of your hands which you do not have. Definitely, you need the will power to be enlightened. Some are probably lucky that they not need to figure out a way to be enlightened but to most of us, we need to exercise and discipline ourselves to what is needed to know.

The very first thing you should do away with is to keep thinking you are stuck in the mud. Let all the positive thinking and self-love be your first in the agenda. Quitting smoking is hardly the answer the more you resist, the stronger the urge will keep coming, but surely when one is awakened, that thing is gone without you making an effort. Have patience, things do not normally happen overnight.

What thoughts are you committed to: is that your burden?

Are you committed to being unburdened (enlightened): is that your burden?

Are you trying to awaken: is that your sleeping drug?

Does your will bring forth expectations that don't exist in actuality? Is the thought about some situation the same as being in the situation? Thus: is thought the instrument to achieve liberation?

Is reality your burden? What thoughts are you projecting upon actuality to create your reality?

Are you looking for a state to reach; which once reached, leads to complete freedom? How will you know when you are there? Without burden-ment, how will you measure freedom? Will you know that you have become enlightened; or, will you not notice?

It is a process that becomes ever more subtle and difficult as our awareness expands. Surrender is as important as effort and will power as important as won't power. No joke. There are things to which you must say, "I will!" and things to which you must say, "I won't!" and mean it. When the Universe knows you mean it, it changes the way it comes at you, the way it expresses Itself. We call this Grace.

As Sri Ramakrisna explains it, 'Self effort and Grace are one and the same thing.'

The state of receptivity requires a calm disposition, a fearless trust in the goodness of Creation that allows us to be calmly aware rather than tense and anxious about what may befall us. From a Christian outlook it is to remember, "All things work for good for those who love the Lord."

You are what you learn. It all depends on the environment. Avoid both extremes, take the middle path , be positive and wait for the right time to come. life is all about timing and nothing is wasted in life as every single step in life is a lesson.

Discipline is a necessary tool for success on the Path.

A good discipline is posture. My friend Trungpa (a Tibetan Guru) said that we, "should not assume the position of a wilted flower.

Best of luck as you go forth on your journey. Remember that the Path starts where you are and ends here.

    Good morning, Nia.

We are taught the road to Enlightenment is not easy nor is it necessarily achieved in one lifetime. The advances that we make in the present will bring us closer to that goal in a future life. The key element in my practice is not to berate one's self but to continue to try. Don't lose faith or sight of the end goal. Continue to strive and work toward that goal. Eventually it will be attained.

    Namaste.

    May all be at peace.

Know yourself, know what you want in life that is good for you and others around you, and strive to achieve it. This is enlightenment. Will power is only necessary if you wish to resist what you really want in life, good or bad.

Will power is an illusion. Examine why you think you possess it--it's because you have none, that you buy into the social mind consensus that you do. Examine what is real in you, since birth.
