Do Canadians eat fake maple syrup like we do?

I'm a 30 year-old US citizen, and I've never even TASTED real maple syrup. I'm just wondering if Canada uses fake syrup like us, or do they only use real maple syrup (on their pancakes).

What is wrong with you? I am a 29 year old US citizen and I'll take real maple syrup over the fake crap any time I can get it. Once you taste the real stuff it will be hard to buy that fake flavored crap. Trust me. Just spend the extra 4 dollars on it one day.

As a former chef in Canada and worked in Canadian restaurants and hotels, most time in the outlets up here it is what is known both in the US and here in Canada as "Pancake Syrup" it comes in gallon size bottles and most has no real maple syrup in it, we do mix it with real in some places, and I worked for a high end hotel chain most of my career, we used the real thing, it came in gallon size tins, we even had it imported to Singapore, Japan and Jamaica when I worked there, most homes use the fake kind, we have one retailer up her who make a combo type with 35% real added, and for special occasion some will splurge and pick up a container of real MS, at my local grocery store bottled and canned variety's go for $4.99 to $9.99 that depends on the size of the container.

It depend on the person, there budget and most are accustom to the fake/artificial any ways, some do not like the harshness of real, my family has a sugar bush in the northern part of Ontario, we used to get Mason jars of it fresh in the spring when I was a lad back in the 1960's.
