Getting My Military ID?

I have been signed up for a few months now and my information is in DEERS. I have my date for Basic and wanted to go get my ID card for Gym and Commissary usage. I talked to the AFPC (they where not very helpful really). I talked to the Visitor Center, they said I need my "Orders" would that be the paperwork with my Basic training date and would I be able to get this from my recruiter?

You will be able to get a copy of your Orders from your recruiter.

They look somewhat like that. You probably have them already, but you don't know what you're looking for.... which is understandable.

You cannot get an real military ID card until you go to Basic. Some bases will allow you to use your DEP ID to get onto base to use the gym. You CANNOT use the BX or commissary with a DEP ID. Until you go through Basic, you are still a civilian and are not entitled to military privileges. Many things can happen between being in DEP and shipping out. I can tell you for a FACT that AAFES and DECA (that's the BX, gas station, auto shop, and Commissary) do NOT let DEP ID card holders shop at their facilities.

You don't get a military ID while you in DEP.

You get zero benefits while in DEP.

You will be issued your military ID in basic training.
