What is your opinion?

I need to take my hubbys car to get the oil changed and the gas filled. The problem is I have 2 17 mo old boys and they only weigh 20lbs. For them to legally ride facing forward they are supposed to be 22-23 (w/e it is).My hubbys car is a mustang and the seats will not fit nor sit properly backward. What is your opinion on them riding about 10 mi. round trip forward? Before you tell me to have my hubby do it, he is deployed and I dont have anyone else to get his car ready for the winter for me.

rearfacing is better but both you children meet the forward facing requiremens so as long as the seats are installed properly there shouldnt be a issue.

its not likr they are 8mths old and only 15pounds .... they meet the 12mth+ AND 20pounds must for forwardfacing

  • I wouldn't, especially if they haven't reached the requirements. The attendants might be required to report it, if it is obvious they are below the weight requirement. You could get into an accident on the way there or back, anything could happen and they are not strong enough to withstand the impact of a car accident forward facing yet.

If you can, find someone to come and watch the kids while you take your husbands car in. Better to be safe than sorry when it comes to kids in a vehicle.

In most states, the law is 20 lbs/12 months to face forward. I'm not sure what state you are in?

So just this once won't matter.

i think the law is 12 months and 20 lbs. though my pediatrician gave me a pamphlet from the AAP that now recommends 2 years and 30 lbs (but it's not a law)

Do you have a family member or friend who could show you how to change the oil? Or find a neighborhood teenager to change it for you and pay them.

it's always been known to me that they have to be 20lbs and 12 months. both my boys reached 20lbs by 10 months and were front facing before their first birthday. My youngest is 17 months and 21lbs. I honestly couldn't imagine him still being rear-facing. You are definately okay to put your kids front facing...permantely.
