Policies are created to improve the rights of each single citizen in the United States. As our founding fathers fought to created a country where each citizen will live a life of freedom and equality. As Thomas Jefferson once said, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Government are".Affirmative action policies became an example of what our founding fathers' beliefs in equality. Affirmative action policies ensured minorities and women to obtain equal opportunities in the labor market. According to Margaret L. Andersen, “Affirmative action has now become one of the most controversial policies for creating better opportunities for members of historically disadvantaged groups" (2008, 149). Nevertheless, affirmative action policy is one of the most controversial public policy that promotes equal opportunities and stop discrimination in the workplace.
