Quick- get Spot Shot! It's the best carpet stain remover on the market. If you can't get to the store right now, dilute it with cold water on a clean towel. Blot & let the towel sit on it to soak it up. Then spray some vinegar right on the coffee stain. By the time you get the Spot Shot it will be much less of a stain & very easy to remove any remaining traces.

The best copy spotter for the home maker is white vinegar, Blot the coffee out of the carpet as best as you can and then treat the stain with the white vinegar, again blot it out of the carpet. If you have a shop vac, you can use this to extract the moisture from the carpet fibers. Dry the carpet by blotting with terry cloth towels and a fan.

Warm water with a bit of washing powder and then soak a sponge ( the soft side, not the pot scratcher side ) in it, wring it out till its just damp but with lots of foam...and rub the stain out.
Works well on natural carpets, like wool and cotton carpets!
If the stain is too heavy use a bit more water in that sponge and rub!
This method wont damage your carpet, compared to the brush method!
Coffee stain is not that hard to remove but tea you got to fight with!

I don't know why this works, but it does. Take a SMALL amount of Murphy's oil soap and put it on the stain on the rug. Take a wet sponge or cloth and rub the stain until it disappears. I have gotton many stains out of rugs this way. Good luck.
