What happens when the music fades? A poem?

Faded Notes

by K.L.

A dusty cello lays overlooked

in the corner... next to scattered sheet music

and a piano that's seen better days

In a room once filled with music

the sun is not the only thing that fades

as the dusts swirls in the air like

notes played with broken fingers

The song fades into the hall of memories

where cellos live in past glory....

Update:

Hi Ma!! Thank you!!

This is a superb poem with such vivid imagery. Just beautiful. What comes to mind is the feeling that many elderly must feel when they are losing their capabilities or sense of Independence and they look back to the sounds and bright colors that once filled their lives in their youth. Many feel diminished in some way because they can't do the things they once did. I worked for many years with elderly folks who were struggling with such feelings and that is why I always found it so important to listen to their stories and appreciate who they were, and value the people they are today.

This is so excellent. There is a haunting echo of music past in the room you have brought to life with your words. Perhaps it is the unseen ghosts of people dancing to this music that stirs up the dust.

"Dust swirls in the air like notes played with broken fingers"...superb!

I saw this scene in the movie "The Hunger". The cello, the dust the fading sunlight. Stock imagery. Lasted about 3 seconds of film time and the director was quick to move on to more creative stuff. It happened to fit into his light and shadows and steam/fog/dust cloud imagery. Otherwise it would have fallen flat in 3 whole seconds.

Nicely done, Echo melodies linger on.

    Hi, Semp!

All I could think of after reading this

is how lonely an empty concert hall is.

Like....it's dead, no longer fulfilling its purpose.

You created a great feeling with this write.
