What has caused the polarization we see in America today?

If all you have is the race card, don't bother to answer.

Democrats. They are the ones responsible for all the tension and polarization. They play the race card, the sex card, the ethnic card, the homo card, the class warfare card, every card you can imagine.

I agree with most of your comments. I think today is more dangerous. I'm not sure why except that maybe I'm more aware and feel more threatened than I did when I was in my twenties. Back then I still thought my parents old fashioned if not a little bit crazy. I really need to think about this some more. I do remember inflation during the 70's. Our savings numbers didn't go down but the value of what we could do with our money sure did. The economy in the USA was bad but not as broken as it is now. My husband was also was in the military during the Vietnam war. I wonder what he has to say about this. I haven't been much help to you. But you at least get my question of the day award. This is gonna bug me for hours.

Maybe it is that most businesses are offshore and this has resulted in unemployment in your own country. Also I'd say it has something to do with the way the Republic government is structured. I live in New Zealand and we don't have those problems. If the local government makes a law that we don't like, individuals get the opportunity to partition the government and have the decision overturned. And vice-versa. Our government has given a lot of the law making decisions over to local goverment (states). I complained about a noisy business near me and now the noise has stopped. Same goes about smells from a fish factory and glue factory. Contacted local government. And they controlled the situation.

All the moderate stuff has been worked out long ago. Also the reason why the U.S. has a major deficit problem is every politician got what they wanted and kicked the problem down the road for the next set of politicians.

Affirmative Action was probably the beginning of it, followed by a entitlement mentality, leading the our present economic problems.

For the past twenty years, in one form or another, we've been seeing policies/agendas/programs that were either directly or indirectly meant to separate the people. If you're part of this group you're entitled to this, if you're not you're just here to pay for it but not have use of it.

Extreme policy choices cause wild backlashes; thus, cause polarization.

Political Bigotry - we have grown to LUST Politics rather than loving our Nation and what is best for her and her people. As long as my “Party” looks good in the polls, it’s all good, regardless how badly our nation is doing.

The far right/left radicals are giving the most attention and now everyone is polarized because of it.

Frankly, it is not as bad as it seems on here. Many of these people are mentally ill . When you meet with real people of the most diverse opinions they are not nearly as polarized as this group.
