going organic/no furry animals?
Hi there-- I have just recently made a commitment to buy organic whatever meat and dairy products that I can. I have also decided to self-impose a moratorium at least till the end of the year on red meat, pork, well- any mammals, I guess. I'll continue to eat chicken, turkey, and fish though. Problem is, my husband is a big meat eater--major! How do I sort of sneak this whole thing past him with minimal resistance? (Talking to him about health benefits and the like is futile).
Also, I have been on the Weight Watchers program for 2 months now. The program is changing in a few weeks and will take into account protein content when assigning "points" to foods, so basically I need to keep my protein intake high. Chicken and fish get boring and I'm not a fan of tofu. Any websites out there on how to get started with these changes? I really want this to work out for the long run. Thanks!

If you think that chicken and fish get boring, you need to learn how to cook, bottom line. When you finally figure that out, your husband won't complain about the lack of meat. I would bet I was a bigger meat fan than he is (6 meals a day with a pound or more of animal products per meal), and I went vegan overnight. Then again, I know how to cook.
I'm not sure why Weight Watchers is pushing a high protein diet when hospitals like the Mayo Clinic and organizations like the American Heart Association are against high protein diets because of the strain it puts on the body. How about adopting a lifestyle change that includes healthy food, proper portions and regular exercise instead of blindly counting points? I lost about 100lbs in about 10 months over 5 years ago and have kept it off (no, I wasn't vegan at the time). If my former fat a** can do it, yours can, too.
I'm not sure why you've decided to stop eating mammals while still consuming foul and fish, but I'm sure you have a logical, well thought out reason for it...if you want to share, you can email me (my email's on my profile page) because I'm always interested in why people choose the diets they do.
You don't need meat or tofu for protein. Proetin is made of amino acids, which are the building block of cells...all cells, including plant cells.
So, my advice:
*Learn how to cook
*Ditch Weight Watchers or at least do some research on the dangers of high protein diets

I'm not clear what you're looking for? Support maybe? I doubt you'll find that here at a veg*n board.
You can Google "nutrition in XXXX" and it'll give you the amount of protein in whatever veggie/food you replace the XXXs with.
There are a multitude of vegetarian recipes online. Just Google "vegetarian recipes". Will your husband like them? Include real butter. He'll love them.
Vegetarian Resource Group (VRG) has info on changing to a vegetarian diet, though you're not going vegetarian. Google again. I'd discourage you from buying anything made from soy. IMO, it's nasty stuff. I've thrown away everything I ever bought that was soy-based. A total waste of $$$.
I also think organic is marketing hype. The USDA says organic foods are no safer, more nutritious or healthier than their conventionally raised counterparts. But it's your money. If it will make you feel better to spend more on organics, go for it.

This is the vegetarian/vegan category.
