How does an event planner calculate their price?

I need to know how an event or party planner determines their fee. I've heard of it done by the number of guests and a few other ways. How do they charge their customers? And what about rentals and supplies, is that included in the fee, does the customer reimburse, or what? Curious as to how this works.

You decide how it is to be done and sign a contract with the person. That makes it legal and binding for both sides. The contract will state who pays for what and how much can or will be spent on what. You estimate your expenses and your time x your worth and I'm sure that varies according to ability to pay.

Estimates are something you learn to be better at as you do it. I had a kid give be a bid to trim my trees and cut down some others. His dad was with him but said nothing. Somewhere in the middle of it all, the kid began to complain he had no idea how long it would take to do the work specified. His dad just laughed. Lesson learned.
