putting an end to split ends?

a few years ago, a friend of mine told me that if you run a scissor blade down your hair (much like you would to curl a ribbon) it will rid your hair of split ends. i have tried this a couple times resulting in what seems to be dead follicles, resembling dust, as well as a few end-strands of hair collected on the scissor blade.

does anyone know if those 'dust' follicles are actually the successful removal of split ends. or, am i just shaving and thinning my hair? is this damaging?

ripping a scissor through your hair will just cause split ends not prevent them. If you want to prevent split ends get your hair cut regularly and use a hair protection serum on your hair. Also, never brush your hair when it's wet it will break your hair. Just use a comb. Oh, one more thing. If you straighten your hair make sure you use a straightening cream or spray.

    In a word, YES!

You are thinning your hair and you are damaging your hair.

Cut your split ends off into some type of cute style and keep your hair moisturized and use as little heat as possible on your hair. Nothing "repairs" split ends.
