At least 8 re-issues and over 10 million copies sold, yet The White Album is still on sale for £16.99...?

Can someone please explain why?

Could it not be the case that any album selling over 'X' amount of million copies then costs no more than £5?

Update:

@ Carl-

Record companies know that The Beatles are a licence to print money-look at the Anthology series. They released 'new' tracks across the 3 releases, knowing full well fans would fork out full price for every release...

thats why there is a rise in the popularity in file sharing networks if record companies want to stop illegal downloads the simple answer is lower the price of cd s/official downloading

paul mccartney is very vocal against file sharing no wonder why, when he is creaming off a nice lump of that 17£

for years people were borrowing albums off of mates and copying them to cassette after that people were borrowing albums from mates and ripping them to their pc or mac and burning them to writable cd this never really bankrupted the record industry did it ? so filesharing etc isnt going to put the final nail in the coffin charging people £17 for a thing like a cd thats on its 10th reissue when most of the population of the world have it in their collection (yes thats a tongue in cheek over estimation) will help the death of the music industry ..... ridiculous high pricing will kill music not home taping

The only reason they can sell it at £16.99 is that there are still enough people out there willing to spend that amount of money on it.

The companies also know that many record collectors, mainly but not exclusively middle aged men, are completists and want every version of their favourites music.

The solution is simple. If you and a large proportion of buyers don't buy, then eventually the company will get the message and either make the next release cheaper or simply not bother.

It will take longer for that to affect the Beatles than say the next X-Factor winner of course.......

£17 for an album is taking the absolute piss. Regardless of whatever album. So iTunes are robbing, unscrupulous basterwrds..who knew? Quite shocked that people sit sheeple like saying 'well if people will pay that' lol - depressing. ..the sound of people shrugging grrr.

There is no justification whatsoever in being able to charge DOUBLE of normal album price based on popularity/critical approval. It should be illegal - that simple, it's blatant profiteering and cynicism.

All together now! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrkwgTBrW78 oh OK then we'll just go and pay £17 and moan a bit.

It is all about supply and demand. And when it comes to music, since the recording companies can control the supply, don't you think they do so to build up pent up demand and drive the price up?

Sorry dude. This is capitalism, not socialism. The only way to get the scenario you want is when a recording company makes a mistake and horribly over-estimates demand and gets stuck with too much product. I don't know what they call it today, but back in the vinyl era, this is what gave rise to "the cut out bin."

In no order... a million. Celtic Frost - To Mega Therion ("Circle Of The Tyrants") 2. Metallica - Kill 'Em All ("metallic armed forces") 3. Iron Maiden - Powerslave ("Powerslave") 4. Diamond Head - Lightning To The countries ("Lightning To The countries") 5. Black Sabbath - grasp Of actuality ("Into The Void") 6. Mercyful destiny - interior the Shadows ("Is which you, Melissa?") 7. Carcass - Heartwork ("Heartwork") 8. Saxon - Denim And leather-based ("lifeless night Rider") 9. Witchfinder established - acquaintances Of Hell ("Love On Smack") 10. Megadeth - Killing Is My corporation... ("final Rites/enjoyed To Deth") Measuring stick? i assume in undemanding terms a vibe element for one, and that i like the album the way it extremely is, flaws and all. incredibly with old type metallic, the imperfections in production, guitar sounds, etc. form of gave it character. some documents purely have the "IT" element. i do no longer rather comprehend too lots of people who blindly love bands that thank you to be user-friendly. Spartan preserve? Nope. Kung Fu, because of the fact it extremely is actual.

it is probably plain and simple greed it's not as if macca and ringo need the cash.as the beatles songs are now on itunes why not download the songs individually it would probably be cheaper.

Exactly. People are still prepared to pay that kind of money for it. Great album though :)
