How do I find a mentor for event planning?

I am starting my own event planning business (spare me the warnings, I know how much work is involved and have been doing it for friends and family for awhile) but would like a mentor who has a lot of experience under their belt to help me learn the ins and outs of the business aspect of it. Contracts, vendor relationships, ettiquette and so on. It seems that to approach someone and request they be my mentor would be encroaching on their business, so how do I find one?

I am placing this in etiquette becasue I would like to know the most effective and unobtrusive way to approach this. I don't want to step on anyone's toes and need to know where to look and how to approach them.

Update:

tried an internet search, all i got was wedding planners in Mentor, Ohio.

Update 2:

Actually, that is kind of the point of being a mentor. Helping someone else who may not have the experience. There are tons of businesses out there that offer mentoring services when they may be in a very competetive market. Yhere is no one within 150 miles of me who does event planning and I am searching for someone OUTSIDE of my market to avoid that very thing.. Please read the question where it states I have done this, am looking for info on the business end of the deal, not warnings on how I should do this working for someone else first. NOW, How do find a mentor.

The Small Business Administration (SBA) has an ideal program for you called SCORE that has mentors for every business imaginable.

The biggest question you need to address is why would anyone help their future competitor? Another event planner in the neighborhood will have negative effects ontheirbusiness.

I would waittoform your own business until you have ample experience, a full client list and reestablished relationships in the business. Get a job as an employee of a well respected event planner and save up capital for a year or so. You'll be glad you did get this experience you won't get any other way.

you're able to desire to sell your self at places the place greater families bypass then so at you community procuring centre or get your advert in a community newspaper... you ought to even pay somebody with good connections to unfold the word approximately your new buissness or maybe for him to exagerate just to get it off the floor... in case you elect to get much greater buissness you're able to desire to be an stronger employer no longer basically community so bypass to distinctive states or cities advertising your employer. you apart from mght could desire to have plans waiting earlier they ask you for it. So have elementary plans waiting for a Birthday, a marriage, A Funeral etc... Then supply it to them for the fundamentals so as that they are able to make their very own customisations as maximum clientele be conscious of what the choose yet don't have a clean theory approximately it so in case you have this elementary plan waiting they are able to coach you what they choose. wish this helped!
