Is it possible to be half Native American and have naturally platinum blond hair and blue eyes?

Genetically I was thinking if someone of Northern European descent and very light coloring mated with someone who was Native American the child could be blond and blue eyed right? I'm trying to find out if my ancestry is what my mother said it is. I know not all Native Americans are stereotypical very tan and dark haired people, but is such a light blond common? If so are there any tribes this is more common with so I can find more information?

Update:

Kitty so you mean at some point maybe the Native American ancestor had some blond genes mixed in that never showed up until they mated with someone blond themselves?

    I'll reiterate...since this is a repost:

It isn't just that FB Indians do not have the recessive blue eye genes to pass on...which means that NO 1/2 blood Indians will have blue eyes...(again, under 1/2...sure...anything is possible there) but it is that you probably just have a standard Indian Blood Myth that was passed on to you by your family. You might want to look into THAT possibility before anything else. It is kind of like the other poster that claimed the following:

"My Great Grandmother was full blood Sioux, and she was white as a ghost with crystal blue eyes."

This is how Indian Blood Myths get started and passed along...until someone can claim a FB Indian ancestor that could pass for an Irishwoman...and not even doubt the myth for a MOMENT. If the supposedly full blood Indian ancestor in your very recent family tree isn't enrolled or listed as such on a CDIB...I would highly doubt your claim anyway. There are very...very...VERY few high blood quantum Indians that are not tribally affiliated (i.e. enrolled). And these rather rare cases usually invovle some crazy politics (disenrollment) or administrative tough luck (adoption/missing paperwork or missing an enrollment deadline...particularly in some of the strict per cap tribes, etc.)

Rather than worry about a phenotype...why don't you look into affiliation and DOCUMENTATION...

I don't know about particular tribes but my hubby is half Cherokee- both his fathers' parents were raised on a reservation in NC.

His father looks like the stereotypical Cherokee with the round face, dark ruddy complexion & almond shaped eyes.

His mother is of mixed caucasian descent, more Italian than anything else, but she is a redhead.

He is very blonde with a light ruddy complexion, blue/ green eyes & looks nothing like either of them.

His sister has bright red hair, fair skin, green eyes & a round face.

its possible i heard of this case where 2 white parents concieved a black child.A white couple Dana and Hugh Clarke are shocked when Dana gives birth to a baby with African-American features. How do you explain this one? Is this even genetically possible for a white couple to have a black child naturally as Barbara Delinsky, author of ‘Family Tree’ puts it?

So what would you do if this happened to you? Send your spouse packing or try to explore the genetic side of the story? And how do you even begin to convince your family and friends?

the thing with genetics, blonde hair and blue eyes are recessive, and so you needed two recessive genes for each to make blonde and blue. this would mean that your native american ancestor must have had recessive genes for blonde and blue, but it probably wasn't expressed...

    so it is possible...

Maybe, genetics can go either way.

@fiddler- that is because those mestizos are usually mixed with spainiards who generally tend to have dark hair and eyes. Where nordics (i.e northern europeans) usually have lighter hair color and eye color.

You asked this question already, did you not like the answers other natives gave you or something?

If you are half Native American, that would make you a Mestizo. How many Mestizos have you met that are naturally blonde ?
