Anyone else think this could be a fun idea?
So, from what I hear, the NHL has gotten rid of the YoungStars game. However, I think a good replacement would be the "Black and Blue" game. Essentially, we take the top fighters/goons, split them into two teams, select 2 goalies who won't be playing the the All Star game, and have a game like that (we can even pick the teams the way they are planning to for this season's All Star game). I personally think this could be fun, since it would offer fight fans something to enjoy and gives guys who don't get much credit for their actual game play skills a chance to demonstrate what they can do.
for those bringing up practicality, I know that this could/would never happen. I'm just suggesting that in a hypothetical world, where anything is possible, that this would be awesome

Careful....this kind of idea will hurt Sammi's feelings....Fighting is wrong in hockey (sheds a tear)
Also, 'BLACK and blue'....Tyrone will be all over this....you racist!
LOL
Source(s): I like the idea, but it would never fly. Owners/GMs/Coaches would never go for a game where the idea was basically to just smash each other and hurt each other on a game that has no bearing to the outcome to the season. - Awesome BillLv 71 decade ago
Interesting idea. Behind the benches could be the "best" fighters in the history of the NHL. They could call it the "No Star Game" and the players can play for money.
With a twist.
No flat rate. Goals and saves are rewarded, while the plus/minus performance of each member means either a reward or deduction.
Fighting will be allowed and linesmen are open game if they try to break them up. Instead of a handshake line at the end of the game, they could have a brawl.
If the referee gets in the way of play - check him into next week.

It's a cool idea but like everyone else is saying would never happen. Would Sean Avery make this team or not because he only tends to fight people who aren't looking or is busy calling out players girlfriends. He isn't much of a goon as a pest. Same with Carcillo from Philly or "Puck Stealing Pronger" or just about anyone from Philly. How about one team is the Flyers vs a all-star goon team from the rest of the league.

It sounds like a fun idea but it's not too practical. What happens when Nick Lidstrom (for example) needs protection and Bertuzzi or Kronwall or even Abdelkader are hurt from the Black and Blue game? Who they gonna turn to? Pavel Datsyuk?
