House GOP blocks bill to extend jobless benefits, Is this what you voted for?
I really want to hear what a good reason for this would be.

For the past 3 or 4 months, the American public, which includes businesses has been held in limbo on extending the tax cuts or not. The vote was delayed so the democrats could not be held accountable (they could run on "I plan to extend them" instead of "I voted to raise your taxes") but gladly it did not work out for most of them. Then you have Nancy Pelosi stating "additional" tax cuts for the rich would "cost" 700 billion dollars (actually closer to 40 billion but why let FACTS get in the way) (also, can you explain how not getting something you never had is "costing" you a dime?). So far unemployment benefits have cost (as in money paid out by the government) $319 BILLION and extending them would cost an additional 33 billion dollars. So going ahead and extending the tax cuts to business owners that just may hire more people once they know where they stand on taxes (and hey help reduce unemployment) and extending unemployment does not amount to a huge difference, particularly when you take into account taxes NOT collected is NOT a "cost" and paying out unemployment is.
Lastly studies have shown that when the end is near for benefits, the person actually starts looking for a job and or is more willing to take that one they did not "like" knowing they were getting ready to be cut off. (Funny it works almost exactly the same for Welfare)

The bill was garbage, there are cuts that could have been made available to pay for the extended benefits but they were left out. There may not be jobs available that they WANT, but there are jobs AVAILABLE. If it takes 2 part time jobs, then so be it, at least they are working and making money. They can't take benefits forever, where will the money come from to pay for it when they only put so much into the system? Not my pocket, sorry.

Actually, yes. The Democrats used a shady maneuver to try to fast track it through without being properly studied and funded. The extension could have been paid for simply by cutting some unspent funds from the stimulus bill, but the Dems didn't want to do that, instead opting to try to ram it through with a fast track vote. Of course, that requires a 2/3 majority, which they don't have, so it failed.

yes, two years on the dole is quite enough--get a job.
