What to wear to a bar mitzvah and what type of gift?

If you are a girl where a casual-ish dress and if you're a guy, either wear a suit or a nice shirt and pants. If it is an orthodox bar mitzvah, then you will probably want to dress up more than if it is a reform, renewal or any other kind. As for gifts, most people give money. It is traditional to give money in multiples of 18, because 18 is the number for life.

You can wear a nice shirt, a casual sport jacket, and a casual pair of pants, or a really nice sweater and shirt, and slacks. I think a Bar Mitzvah money holding card, with a $50 bill enclosed is a more than a generous gift. Have a really nice time!

Of COURSE he's 13!!! That's when one does a Bar Mitzvah, you know. That's sort of like saying that the Sweet Sixteen is turning Sixteen.

Gift? Get a gift card for a bookstore. He can use it to get a book, which you'll feel good about, or music, which he's probably more likely to do, but at least you MEANT to get him something educational!

Wear nice clothes. Nothing too showy, Church-going clothes.

Decent cloth but comfortable. Since there are games played after the ceremonies are over. On gifts anything a boy may like. Its how he is going to be a 'man'.

Casual attire means no jackets or ties, but no jeans or running shoes either.

Just try and look cool so you can impress the girls.

Gift? Get him few dirty magazines.

Give him a gift that will last forever. Teach him about his Jewish heritage and the true beauty, privilege and spirituality of being a Jewish man.
