I served my full-time mission 2001-2003. It was the best 2 years of my life.

Why i served? It's because of my burning testimony of the Book of Mormon and my desire to serve the Lord to help His children. All my life I have been blessed because of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And I felt that I should serve a mission so others can know Jesus Christ and enjoy the blessings of the gospel too.

Looking back now, it was the best decision that I ever made. Seeing those families that i baptized get sealed to the temple and now participating and serving fully in their wards, what a great joy. Knowing you were an instrument in helping those families.

I served because truth makes me happier. I'm a physicist. I'm a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who knows that it is the Lord Jesus Christ's authorized church on the Earth. I want and wanted to be able to share why I know with others and learn stuff from them in the process. When I felt like the Lord wanted me to go on a mission and saw that His desire and my desire were so closely related, I decided I had to go!

I went and learned that it really didn't matter what I wanted - it only really matters what He wants. My heart changed and all I wanted to do was what He wanted me to do. The trick then became discovering what it was He wanted. Personal revelation is not an easy thing to have consistently. (I'm not there yet either lol) I have, however, received revelation (as per James 1:5) that the Prophets and Apostles in the LDS Church actually called by Christ just like Peter, Matthias, etc. in His Church in the "former days."

What I'm trying to say is that the reason I wanted to serve changed over the course of my mission as I began to feel the Lord's love for the people He was using me to bless. It was pretty neat to see and feel. He really does care.

What led me down the path that ultimately ended in me serving a mission? Probably a combination of things but the big ones were: my grandmother, personal scripture study, prayer, and the Spirit of God. Plus, I just like adventure so I sort of kept going in the Church even when I started to have doubts or strugglings. I'm so glad I'm stubborn. It ended up leading me right where I wanted to be, even though I didn't know it at the time.

    So......short answers? :op

    Why did you do it?

At first because I wanted to and eventually because He wanted me to.

    What was your motivation?

    At first, duty; eventually, love.

What led you down the path to make that choice?

Being obedient to the Gospel I had been taught growing up because I wanted to be obedient.

I haven't yet but I'm going to talk to the bishop and will be serving a mission. My reason will be to teach the gospel so others can experience the blessings that members experience and receive for believing in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Not only will I use the Book of Mormon on the mission to teach the truth, I will also talk on the Bible as well as history that I know seeing how recently I've looked up a LOT of historical facts regarding the Book of Mormon and it being true including verses in the Bible itself that provided evidence of the Book of Mormon's truthfulness.

  • I didn't serve a mission but I will someday, with my hubby.

I would really love to be of service to others. People have done so much for me in my life, have given of their time, friendship and labor, I would like to devote a whole lot of my time doing the same for others.

I did not serve a mission but when I want to go on a senior missionary when it comes that time if i am able to go. I have several friends and even family members that have gone on missions. Some of them went becasue it felt right to go on a mission. Some of them prayed about the decision and felt impressed to go.

I'm almost going to serve as a missionary, and why I decided it?

Because I need to help people to find the truth, I need to help families to be together forever.

I'll also develop my faith, my body, my mind, and because God said that all men have to do it, so, that's the point!

By age 18, I had pretty severe doubts about the church -- what was claimed didn't match observable reality. However, the social/peer pressure to go on a mission was pretty intense, as was the family pressure. When my step dad told me that if I'd go on a mission, he'd pay for the whole thing *and* pay for my college when I got back, I figured what the heck...I'll go.

I got sent to France. Loved it. I really did work hard, wound up a zone leader. Baptized 6 people, darn good for secular/catholic France. Had a great 2 years riding a bike around the French countryside and enjoying the great food and great people. But the doubts remained.

Came back, and left the church for good 4 months later. My step dad, by the way, never did pay for my college...

    Peace.

i am going to serve a mission to spread the word of God, i dont care how much they will try to corrupt me and try to get me to believe the church is false. they need to know the lords gospel. even if they slam the door on my face i will never stop trying to spread the word of God.

Honestly? I just always felt that it was something I wanted to do. Nobody forced it on me. Nobody pressured me in any way. I just knew that what I had made me happy, and I wanted to share it with others.

...and I'm glad I did, because it was AMAZING.

I was going to serve one but my dad believed that i belonged in the kitchen, I was not allowed to go to college or drive a car either so I eventually joined the military instead.
